Hi, several times I tried to upload a new profile image (avatar), but each time (even after delting previous ones) I just see an image which is kinda distorted. Who can help? Where are the SETI/BOINC website developers? Thank you for your reading, time, good intentions and assistance, Sven |

Press F5 (or Ctrl-F5) to reload the page - sometimes browser shows what's in its cache. And "profile image" is not the same as "avatar". To change "avatar" go to this page: http://setiathome.berkeley.edu/edit_forum_preferences_form.php In your profile I see something like a small crown (120 x 80 pixels, 2.2 KB) (e.g. My User ID is: 8647488 so: My "profile image": http://setiathome.berkeley.edu/user_profile/images/8647488.jpg My "avatar image": http://setiathome.berkeley.edu/user_profile/images/8647488_avatar.jpg ) Â - ALF - "Find out what you don't do well ..... then don't do it!" :) Â |

If you see the golden logo, then indeed my browser didn't show me the real image. Thanks a lot for your information! Will have to refresh the browser cache then! Thank you for your reading, time, good intentions and assistance, Sven |

Alright, what can you see now as my avatar / profile picture? Should be a ship, mainly in red and white colors, right? I self see it with a distorted background, like a dark brownish stem from left to right (which is not supposed to be there). Both images should be the same. Hopefully. Thank you for your reading, time, good intentions and assistance, Sven |

After I presses F5 both are almost the same (size is different, and the background of the ship is different so you used different pictures) Left: loaded directly from setiathome.berkeley.edu Right: saved by me and uploaded to prikachi.com (Left and Right should look the same (if you do not change/upload new picture again), if not - press F5) Profile: Avatar (can't be more than 100 x 100 pixels): Â - ALF - "Find out what you don't do well ..... then don't do it!" :) Â |

No, I used the same picture but of different sizes. And the distorted, messed up background is the reason, why I am posting here. That's the problem. Both pictures are supposed to be identical, background included: empty background. Thank you for your reading, time, good intentions and assistance, Sven |

Both the profile pictures look the same. Both the avatar pictures look the same. The profile picture looks different from the avatar picture because the image is compressed down to 100x100 pixels. The only thing you can do is to resize the image yourself down to 100x100 without distortion. |

Then post/upload the "real" picture/file to some site and post the link for us to see what you mean the image to be. e.g. use this (no account needed): http://www.datafilehost.com/ Give us a link like this: http://www.datafilehost.com/download-933c48a3.html  - ALF - "Find out what you don't do well ..... then don't do it!" :)  |

Does the profile picture in your browser not have that strange background behind the ship: darl brown lines and something red from left to right? I deleted several times my browser cache and still see it with that strange background, while the avatar image shows, as both images (avatar and profile) supposed to be, the ship only and a plain background. In Message 1142635: http://setiathome.berkeley.edu/forum_thread.php?id=65188&nowrap=true#1142635 I say: Right: saved by me and uploaded to prikachi.com So that's what I see (the images at the Right) And words like "strange background" does not mean anything since we don't know what you want it to be. No need/not useful to explain by words. To show - upload the image somewhere else and give the link: http://photobucket.com/ http://imageshack.us/ ) That is how my post in Message 1142635 looks in my Opera browser, saved by [PrintScreen] + IrfanView + PNG format + Uploaded to prikachi.com: That is how your Profile looks in my Opera browser (I'm on Win 98 computer at the moment), saved by [PrintScreen] + IrfanView + PNG format + Uploaded to prikachi.com: Since the images above are new to anyone the browser cache have no impact and "what you see is what you get". P.S. It is not good to make company advertising in a SETI@home Profile! Â - ALF - "Find out what you don't do well ..... then don't do it!" :) Â |

it is so strange with the image background. It should be just the ship, and nothing accross behind it. It should be like its smaller 100x100px version: just a blank background. At this time, I am assuming that the image script of SETI has a problem and malfunctions. I tried to find a link, how to contact SETI or their website staff, but can't find it so far anywhere. Does anyone have a link to contact them, in order to inform them about that malfunction? The first time I uploaded a partially transparent PNG image, after that I uploaded several times HPF images. But since the PNG upload, it looks strange. So maybe their script can't handle PNG and also does not replace the faulty version (once it is a PNG) with a better JPG version..? How to contact them? Thank you for your reading, time, good intentions and assistance, Sven |

So many words for this small unimportant picture. Just remove it ("To remove it from your profile, check this box: []") Update profile so you don't see any picture Upload new picture in JPG format "(50KB or less)" (it's not Photoshop, don't try strange formats like HPF (which I never heard of) and no transparency) Really, how many people you think will look at someone's profile? I don't think more than 10 people looked ever at my profile. How many profiles did you looked at? (I read not more than 20 profiles in the 4 years I am here and reading the forums) Â - ALF - "Find out what you don't do well ..... then don't do it!" :) Â |

Well, deleting existing picture, and uploading again, is what i do since days... :-D Still, it shows the very first, distorted version. Thank you for your reading, time, good intentions and assistance, Sven |

Still, it shows the very first, distorted version. But since you are the only one to see the distortion, it can't be the server that is doing wrong. And so, even the SETI website staff wouldn't be able to help you. I think it might be a problem with your browser or your ISP. Gruß, Gundolf |

Thanks. No, look to one of the posts of BilBg, where he uses a screenshot how the image shows on his system: the same problem with the background behind the ship: a dark bar from left to right. It's not only on my PC. Thank you for your reading, time, good intentions and assistance, Sven |

its not a dark bar. it looks like a garage or something of that sort behind the ship. In fact the larger picture appears to be an unedited pic. the avatar appears to be missing the additional picture material. possibly done through photoshop?
