After a bit of 'net searching, I don't think the red center is a thin spot in the cells. Normal red blood are that way. So my guess is that these are in fact globe shaped. And that would make them...

there were actually a few on that photo but the cells are Red Blood Cells(RBC's) with Target cell formation. Common in Thalasemias, certain anemias and liver disease
