Wait a second.

Guys - I've got a HD 4850 and just presumed it wouldn't do any kind of crunching because ATI wasn't really working yet or hadn't been.

Does this mean on my quadcore Corei7 2.8 ghz machine I could crunch NINE workunits at once versus the 8 I get with just optimized enhanced?

Would this make significant enhancements to my RAC?

Depends on your definition of significant. Not nearly as much as using an nVidia GPU, but more than what a dual-core CPU could do, depending on the specs of the ATi GPU being used.

you'll need to edit your app_info and restart boinc afterward. Making sure that all the boinc processes go down before restarting your manager.

Getting two tasks running simultanously wasn't the problem. The issue was that a single task took around 20 minutes, when running 2 tasks the time increased to 2-3 hours (running two instances of the application)

I discussed this in the ATi Multibeam thread and some suggested that either the mainboard architecture (Intel 945P) or XP_x86 was the culprit.

when running 2 WU's change your period_iteration to 10 also update your drivers to 11.2 if possible

It seems to work now. The first two tasks are finished and the improvement was 5-10% compared to running a single task.
I noticed that the GFlops peak value increased from 2720 to 3840 after updating the driver to 11.2.

Yes there have been ATI applications for a while now, but only for windows. Looking over your machine list it looks like your i7-860 is running OS X?

Yes but it's easily enough given a Windows partition and booting into that. My cooling mods should be sufficient to run it decently - at 100% cpu it's typically at 135 fahrenheit, even less than my old Athlon 64x2 box.

My Sapphire HD4870 only ran it's cooling fan in the 40-45% range running the MB app. Depending on your cases airflow this seemed to be pretty standard across other 4xxx cards. I think some saw as high at 60% fan speeds.
