6.12 will display the HD6900 cards name correctly. It does not effect you being able to use the ATI MB & AP applications.

Also it looks like you have the 11.3 drivers. I forget but there might have been an issue with those and the apps. Be sure to read over the threads about the apps if no one comments otherwise..

Support is a two-part process. You need to first have support built into BOINC so that it can be used. Rudimentary support is built into v6.10.x for ATi GPUs, but v6.12.x (still in testing) will have better support.

The second part is the projects you belong to need to have applications that are designed to take advantage of the available hardware. At this moment, ATi is unsupported officially at SETI, and I have not seen any announcements that they will be officially supporting ATi in the near or even long term future (distant, maybe).

There is, however, unofficial support for ATi chips if you use a third party app created by Raistmer. I recently started using the app myself and it seems to do well. I, too, have an ATi Radeon HD 6970 using the Catalyst 3.11 drivers and have had no issues (the issues I thought I was having was unrelated to the video card after some digging).

Installing third party apps can require some careful creation/editing of your App_Info.XML file (you'd only have this if you're already using "optimized" third party apps). Or if you prefer, I hear the guys at Lunatics will be integrating Raistmer's ATi app into their easy-to-use installer that will make all the appropriate changes to your App_Info.XML file for you. The installer may still be a little while away before it's ready for the public.

Hope that helps!

Also the thread on the Astropulse application.
http://setiathome.berkeley.edu/forum_thread.php?id=63517

Also a link to the lunatics Opt APP download section.
http://lunatics.kwsn.net/index.php?module=Downloads

General rule of thumb when switching to Opt Apps. Let your cache run dry, close BOINC, install opt apps, restart BOINC, & allow new tasks.

There are several threads on help with Opt App use/install. If you are not comfortable doing any of that you can certainly wait until the current Opt App code gets turned into a stock application.

Ok. I have just been crunching along for a couple of years now running 0 outside applications. Above and beyond the ATi app to boost performance, would installing other aftermarket apps be adventageous for me. For the last couple of hours I have been reading about proper instilation of all the applications for my new 6970. I saw alot of stuff for AMD/64 apps. Will that optimize and speed up the rest of my apps, or should I just stick to the Radeon app for now?

The Opt Apps tend to sort through tasks a bit quicker as each separate one is designed for the specific capabilities of your CPU. They also contain code fixes that may not yet be in the stock apps.

The speed of the Optimized CPU Applications is 150-200% faster than stock.

And it's easier to first install the "Lunatics' Unified Installer":
http://lunatics.kwsn.net/index.php?module=Downloads;catd=9

and then modify the created app_info.xml by adding the parts for ATI (just before the last tag </app_info>).

(!!! If you just make app_info.xml with only ATI apps all of your CPU tasks will be deleted and you will not receive more! (CPU will stay idle)
So use the "Lunatics' Unified Installer" first.

Check regularly if a new versions of "Lunatics' Unified Installer" and ATI apps are released.
(when you have app_info.xml apps are NOT auto-updated)
)

Wrong place.
All should be inside project subdirectory, not just BOINC data directory.

Wrong name, Wrong place, Wrong contents.

It's not ap_info.xml - is app_info.xml
Not in c:/programfiles(x86)/Boinc - in C:\ProgramData\BOINC\projects\setiathome.berkeley.edu\
(here go also the app files, e.g. MB_6.10_win_SSE3_ATI_r177.exe , MultiBeam_Kernels.cl , ...)

No <app_info> ........ </app_info> tags

And obviously you want desperately to loose all your CPU tasks?

! First: install the "Lunatics' Unified Installer"!

!!! P.S.
But this message shows you already have some (unknown to you) app_info.xml
4/17/2011 12:10:42 PM SETI@home Found app_info.xml; using anonymous platform

As I said earlier - "Lunatics' Unified Installer" creates app_info.xml
- add the parts for ATI just before the last tag </app_info> in this Lunatics-created app_info.xml

I did first install Lunatics' Unified Installer. It difinatley changed the way that boinc runs.

After I downloaded and ran the unified installer I then downloaded the the other GPU apps, just obviously put them in the wrong directories. The app_info file i will fix in the correct directory.
