In my account, there are four units that are awaiting validation and two which were described as "validation inconclusive."

What does that mean?

Thanks for your insight.

Stevo,
Validation inconclusive just means that the two work units that have been returned don't quite match up. A third unit has been/will be issued for validation to see which of the two units already returned is accurate.

Err?
Surely you meant:
Each work unit is sent to two users, who return the results (in the time allowed). If the two results are sufficiently similar then the WU is validated and you get credits, if they are different then the WU is sent of to a third user, who returns their result (in the time allowed) and this is compared with the first two and "winner" takes the prize.

after more then 10 years crunching, you just noticed that some WU's need to be validated by more then the 2 original machines due to a mis-match of results?

lol, not everyone is astute or pays attention. Remember there are quite the mass populace of people here who simply install and let it run and it could be years later before they actually start paying attention to what goes on. I ran Seti@Home for 5 years or more before I even stepped past the first page of the site.

Not everybody is quick on the uptake.

You wouldn't happen to be related to the brothers Ken and Jim Erdmann would you?

Yes, I was aware that other cumputers are working the same WUs. I just never saw that particular message.

I admit I am not the most technically astute user.

But it's a drag when this old computer works hard on an Astropulse WU for 167 hours, only to see it invalidated. There was also one that was invalid due to a processing error. This machine has been running S@H 24/7 for seven years now. It's tired. But it runs fine and I can't justify or afford a replacement now.

Stevo.

Neither of the work units have been invalidated at this point - just that the results are inconclusive at this point, Looking at all your results, I'm not sure if the astropulse is correct or not, seems like it took a long time to crunch - but the second WU you did correctly - and your wingman screwed his up.

It has got to be a drag to crunch something for almost 7 days, and then see it pending due to inconclusive results!

The wingman with the -9 overflow on the MB Task is on Joe's list of crunchers still running Raistmer's V12 ap on a Fermi card. When the third Task comes back, it should validate your result, Steve, and invalidate the V12.
