No worries, I knew about changing the text sizes, but that then has the effect of messing up how many sites show up, how they wrap, etc. Kinda a kludgey fix, but def better than nothing, if you really need it. I guess what I am imagining isn't possible. As for AP tasks, bummer that they don't work on the GPU, as it is such a more efficient cruncher. Well, I've watched the software changes in SETI since the '99, so I don't put anything past the developers, given enough time. One of these days I expect to see it come to pass, if we still have a significant # of AP tasks to process. |

Yeah it theory it would seem good to run APs on the GPU. I've been running vlar's on my 480 and it's cut my time down from ~2.5-3 hours to ~55min-1hr.10min. I know some of the ATi guys are extremely happy with the results they were getting, like really really low times. The reason we can't run it had something to do with the OpenCL we have? No clue I figure before too long we will see it happen. Traveling through space at ~67,000mph! |

Well, it looks like by the time I get up tomorrow morning, I will finally be thru all my wu's. I will check out the notes from the earlier posts in this thread to figure out what to put where. If anyone would like to review it and give me some specific directions on what to put where, I would appreciate it. |

I believe they have something going in their alpha testing for NVidia GPUs and AP. Not sure when it will be available for us peons though. PROUD MEMBER OF Team Starfire World BOINC |

Ok, edited my app_info.xml, does this look good to go before I re-start BOINC? <app_info> <app> <name>setiathome_enhanced</name> </app> <file_info> <name>AK_v8b_win_SSE3_INTEL.exe</name> <executable/> </file_info> <app_version> <app_name>setiathome_enhanced</app_name> <version_num>603</version_num> <flops>6000000000</flops> <file_ref> <file_name>AK_v8b_win_SSE3_INTEL.exe</file_name> <main_program/> </file_ref> </app_version> <app> <name>astropulse_v505</name> </app> <file_info> <name>ap_5.05r409_SSE.exe</name> <executable/> </file_info> <app_version> <app_name>astropulse_v505</app_name> <version_num>505</version_num> <flops>235000000000</flops> <file_ref> <file_name>ap_5.05r409_SSE.exe</file_name> <main_program/> </file_ref> </app_version> <app> <name>setiathome_enhanced</name> </app> <file_info> <name>Lunatics_x32f_win32_cuda30_preview.exe</name> <executable/> </file_info> <file_info> <name>cudart32_30_14.dll</name> <executable/> </file_info> <file_info> <name>cufft32_30_14.dll</name> <executable/> </file_info> <file_info> <name>libfftw3f-3-1-1a_upx.dll</name> <executable/> </file_info> <app_version> <app_name>setiathome_enhanced</app_name> <version_num>608</version_num> <flops>235000000000</flops> <plan_class>cuda</plan_class> <avg_ncpus>0.040000</avg_ncpus> <max_ncpus>0.040000</max_ncpus> <coproc> <type>CUDA</type> <count>1</count> </coproc> <file_ref> <file_name>Lunatics_x32f_win32_cuda30_preview.exe</file_name> <main_program/> </file_ref> <file_ref> <file_name>cudart32_30_14.dll</file_name> </file_ref> <file_ref> <file_name>cufft32_30_14.dll</file_name> </file_ref> <file_ref> <file_name>libfftw3f-3-1-1a_upx.dll</file_name> </file_ref> </app_version> <app_version> <app_name>setiathome_enhanced</app_name> <version_num>609</version_num> <flops>235000000000</flops> <plan_class>cuda23</plan_class> <avg_ncpus>0.040000</avg_ncpus> <max_ncpus>0.040000</max_ncpus> <coproc> <type>CUDA</type> <count>1</count> </coproc> <file_ref> <file_name>Lunatics_x32f_win32_cuda30_preview.exe</file_name> <main_program/> </file_ref> <file_ref> <file_name>cudart32_30_14.dll</file_name> </file_ref> <file_ref> <file_name>cufft32_30_14.dll</file_name> </file_ref> <file_ref> <file_name>libfftw3f-3-1-1a_upx.dll</file_name> </file_ref> </app_version> <app_version> <app_name>setiathome_enhanced</app_name> <version_num>610</version_num> <flops>235000000000</flops> <plan_class>cuda_fermi</plan_class> <avg_ncpus>0.040000</avg_ncpus> <max_ncpus>0.040000</max_ncpus> <coproc> <type>CUDA</type> <count>1</count> </coproc> <file_ref> <file_name>Lunatics_x32f_win32_cuda30_preview.exe</file_name> <main_program/> </file_ref> <file_ref> <file_name>cudart32_30_14.dll</file_name> </file_ref> <file_ref> <file_name>cufft32_30_14.dll</file_name> </file_ref> <file_ref> <file_name>libfftw3f-3-1-1a_upx.dll</file_name> </file_ref> </app_version> </app_info> I also tried to find something called dcf int the client_state.xml as mentioned by Miep, but couldn't find it. Looking forward to getting crunching again with this machine. :) The actual tag is called <duration_correction_factor> (DCF for short). I only run SETI :) Thanks for the info, I changed it. Does everything else look good, before I try re-starting BOINC? Thanks! |

What did you change in the app_info and why? and is your name really George Osborne?, or did your user id change like everyone elses? :-) Claggy |

Nope, not George Osborne, it must have changed, I noticed that mine is a fairly high number for someone who started in early '99, but it seems that when you changed your host, it gave you a new number, and couldn't find a way to get back the orig one. At least they have my start date correct. ;) The reason I was changing stuff is that I upgraded my vid card from a MSI NX8800GT to a BFG GTX275 OC, and wanted to update my files with the correct flops statement, and whatever else would make it run more efficiently. If need be, I can post both files for someone to analyze in case I missed something. |

There really was no reason to add or change flops values, the server scales the <rsc_fpops_est> for the Wu's of each device anyway, It might take a bit longer, but there's less chance of things being moved in the wrong direction, Claggy |

I think you'll want to reduce the flops for: <app_name>astropulse_v505</app_name> Joe |

I think you'll want to reduce the flops for: Joe, what would you recommend setting it to? There really was no reason to add or change flops values, the server scales the <rsc_fpops_est> for the Wu's of each device anyway, So, I really don't need to have it in there at all? They system adds it for me? I haven't messed with it under the hood much, other than installing the optimized apps. Lots to learn, I know. |

The system will adjust the flops count but it takes ten of each type for it to get an idea. This is no problem with MB and Cuda but might be annoying for APs showing too long a time to completion guesstimate. PROUD MEMBER OF Team Starfire World BOINC |

I think you'll want to reduce the flops for: 13.7e9 based on the host's application details. Joe |

Ok, set it to 137000000000, going to fire it up now and see how it goes. Thanks for all the advice, I'll let you know if there are any issues once it's had a chance to crunch for a while. *edit* Well, just installed EVGA Precision, and set the card to slightly OC-core 675, shader 1476, memory 1152 (didn't change that one yet) and with the fan speed set to 100, it's running about 66-67 degrees C, is that hot for this card? It also shows that it is using 275 meg of memory, does that mean I should change a setting to allow it to run more than one task at a time? Has it been established that you get better perf running 2 or more, or does that depend on the CPU's ability to feed them? In the time I've written this, the temp seems to have stabilized at around 63C. The thing sounds like a small vacuum cleaner, so I would like to try to turn down the fan speed a little. I know less of course is better, but what is an acceptable temp to run this card at 24/7? I can drop it back to stock speeds if necessary for the long term health of the card. |

I think that's still a zero more than in 13.7e9. ;-) Gruß, Gundolf |

Ruh roh, I better double check that one, I typed it in here manually, didn't cut and paste. I quick checked in BOINC manager, it is estimating the Cuda tasks as taking 17 minutes, and it seems that they are pretty close to that. The current task is 16 minutes in, with 2:33 to go, so maybe I did get it right? |

Could you please walk me thru it? Thanks! |

Al, on the End of the Table you will find the Link to your Signature Graphic: http://boincstats.com/stats/user_graph.php?pr=sah&id=7810325 [Edit:] The easier way: Change the Number in your Sig here in the Community Preferences from 40548 to 5117. ;-) Helli A loooong time ago: First Credits after SETI@home Restart |
