Gee it looks like the American government will try to settle its debt by charging Canadians money to cross in to the US of A.
You would think they could come up with anything better than that.

Do you have a news reference to this? Because honestly that sounds fairly silly.

I agree with you, it does sound silly; the reference is from the briefing notes taken during the last meeting between Prime Minister Harper, and president Obama. The fees will be $5.50 per person using a boat or airplane. (Going by car is still exempt.) For the sake of America you should hope it is in Canadian dollars. (Just a small joke.)

P.S. It also was on MSNBC and the CBC.

5.50 on top of airfare is not a major thing. 5.50 coming in via boat to stay a while (port o call fee) is still not a large thing. But for Ferry service, that could add up to insane!

The only reasonable response to fees as such would be to "return the favor".
I would still like to see in print something about what exactly they are talking about.

ahh so just a part of the budget bill. And yes a silly part (the Budget looks the size of the new york city phone book, although by the time congress goes through it there should be MANY more dead trees involved)

"
CBC's Susan Bonner called the president's budget "a first step" that will be debated, dissected, and possibly altered substantially, even though it has currently caught Canadians' attention.

"Whatever comes out at the end of the budget-making process is often very, very different from how it starts," she said, adding that it's possible Canadians may not end up having to pay a cent of the proposed $5.50 fee."

Roughly put, they are trying to find a way to pay for TSA agents to grope everyone.

I am against charging this fee to Americans, Just bring yourselves and any old green backs you may have laying around. You can rent my back yard for your tent or trailer if you like. Good low fees.

Isn't that a tad offensive to an entire nationality of people? Even if you meant it in jest (I hope), you poke fun at others then get angry when others poke you back.
