You don't need to ask them. Just change it on your machine, or router, to any of the many publicly available DNS servers. OK. Talk me through it one step at a time, please. My outgoing mail, addressed to say davea@ssl.berkeley.edu, gets passed by smtp to mail.btopenworld.com About half an hour later, I get an email back from MAILER-DAEMON@nm16.bullet.mail.ukl.yahoo.com It says "No MX or A records for ssl.berkeley.edu" Anyone know an open-relay SMTP server that does have (or have access to) an MX record for ssl.berkeley.edu? |

LOL I don't believe you will find an Open-Relay SMTP Server. If so, they are all blacklisted by all Mail Provider because of Spamming. :D Helli A loooong time ago: First Credits after SETI@home Restart |

LOL Precisely. That's why I use the SMTP server - with authentication - provided by my ISP. That way, my outgoing mail doesn't get blacklisted or treated as spam. |

Move to a different DNS. see if that works. OpenDNS works: DNS1: 212.242.40.3 DNS2: 212.242.40.51 |

OK, could someone using these super-wizzy dns records please use one of them to send an email to davea@ssl.berkeley.edu, reporting that there seems to be a problem with Changeset [23079], and would he terribly much mind having a look at http://aqua.dwavesys.com/forum_thread.php?id=747? Ta. |

... I get Got answer: That mailwall machine appears to respond to pings at least, doesn't of course prove whether or not the mail server process hasn't crashed or something, and my ISP just keeps nameserver entries longer than ttl. You could always setup Linux, with mail server, in a VM & put in manual entries. "Living by the wisdom of computer science doesn't sound so bad after all. Or I could just wait until the developers at AQUA get so fed up with the quality-control procedures at BOINC Central that they just drive down the Pacific Coast Highway and tell David where to put his shiny new IBM grant, personally. |

Anyway it is worthy of Panic, since mention of the IBM grant reminds me your DNS requests are probably being forwarded to Watson, who believes Toronto is a US city. Don't you feel smarter now? Indeed! Even an Australian one too :P OK, I give in, Watson knows everything & should be quite capable of correctly forwarding Richard's email, Panic off. No problems at all uploading, downloading or reporting from here. Fortunately I am not trying to send eMail to Berkeley as I am also with BT (just like Richard). F. |

Any time my ISP has DNS issues.. I use 4.2.2.2 and 4.2.2.1. Using nslookup and asking 4.2.2.2 to get the MX records for ssl.berkeley.edu looks like it is doing what it is supposed to. Linux laptop: record uptime: 1511d 20h 19m (ended due to the power brick giving-up) |

Sorry absolutely useless at networking issues so have no idea what that means. |

Sorry absolutely useless at networking issues so have no idea what that means. Well, I'm sorry, but I'm a day-shift sort of person, and half-past midnight in the same time-zone as you isn't really a safe time to start your first tutorial in networking. If you're up all night, I'm sure there's an American network tutor around who'll be able to talk you through it: otherwise, I suggest we both stop worrying about it overnight, and pick up in the morning if it's still not sorted then. |
