SETI is only visible in task manager (and BOINC manager).

But anyone checking the machine with a microgram of sense or intelligence would question a) what the 'rogue' process(es) was/were & b) why the machine is at 100%. 100& may also bring extra noise/heat.

Run SETI@home only on authorized computers ____________ Questions? Answers are in the "Unofficial" BOINC Wiki. Boinc V7.0.27 Win7 i5 3.33G 4GB, GTX470

Install it as a service then delete the icons from the all users start menu. I do this on a older version of boinc.

Task manager will not show all processes for regular user, but regular user can still see (at least with default config) 100% busy CPU. Usual PC will not have 100% CPU usage constantly. So this could rise some user questions anyway.

Can you install seti but keep it hidden while it is running? But, why you should do this? If you think about to install BOINC/S@h on your PC/s at work, maybe one feet is already 'terminated'.. You must ask your company/chief first. Make a forum or Google search with 'NEZ'. ;-) ____________ >Das Deutsche Cafe. The German Cafe.<

There should never be a reason to hide it. Think again. Never say never: unobtrusive ≠ clandestine. Suppose you had a non-technical friend or co-worker who says “I’ll let you install SETI on my computer, but only if I can’t even tell it’s there.” ____________

There should never be a reason to hide it. Think again. Well, He'd better be the owner of the company then. I was going to be a wise guy when this was first posted and say, Nez must have got a new job. But Me thinks that something smells about this question. Installed on a bunch of relatives computers perhaps? ____________

It could be family computers where he doesn't want the kids to see it and start messing around with it.

Just friend and family computers...but don't want them to see it incase they uninstall it. Most arent computer savvy

Thats what I thought. Running SETI in secret. NOT COOL AT ALL. Ever try and ask them if you could run it? Im betting some said no.

Just friend and family computers...but don't want them to see it incase they uninstall it. Most arent computer savvy Hmm if that is how you treat your family and friends, I would hate to think how you treat your enemies. ____________ Janice

Why are you all assuming he wants to do this on the sly?

Yep its already been stated you are not allowed to install the software on computers that you don't own or have the owners permission to use. By placing BOINC on a computer then hiding it so they won't uninstall means you either are trying to get around them knowing about it or you suspect they are incompetent enough to dump your BOINC work. I'm betting you are doing something your shouldn't and perhaps this thread should be locked down

Why are you all assuming he wants to do this on the sly? My grandkids play all sorts of crap while I run boinc. Never hurt anything yet. Im sure they might slow it down, But why would I have to hide it. ____________

Why are you all assuming he wants to do this on the sly? Well, only he knows his reasons and motives, but I could see somebody with limited computer skills accidentally clicking on something in Boinc whilst poking around and not knowing how to set it right again. That's all I was getting at. I certainly would not condone installing it on anybody else's computer without permission and 'hiding' it just so they didn't know it was there. I was just leaving open the possibility that there might be a valid reason for wanting to have Boinc inaccessible, especially on a computer you don't have access to all the time and is used by others. ____________ ****** "Ask not, what your kitty can do for you. I would agree Mark if it was his computers. By his admission they are not.
