I have searched the forum but can't find an answer so far...

Recently I've got two Asus GTS 450 GPU's and I am using this cards for Seti at the moment. The cruncher I have running at this moment has the following specs:

- AMD Phenom(tm) II X4 955 Processor [Family 16 Model 4 Stepping 3]
- [2] NVIDIA GeForce GTS 450 (993MB) driver: 26089

I like to know what the capabilities of this cruncher are (in theory). The GPU cards are not in SLI mode, because I can't find a reason for SETI to do this..

I can find a number of posts about the CPU, but can't find anything about the GTS 450.

Is there anyone here who can tell me an expected RAC in theory?

Regards,

Peter

3.75 WU's per hour on average -> 90 per day. Let's say 120 points per WU -> RAC: 10,800 per day.

that makes the 450 about 1.5 minutes faster than my 5850 using the current r177 app

Okay, I hope I made the right decision here. I just decided to order a new Ultra LSP550 550W power supply and an EVGA GTS 450 card. That's about the best I could afford and even that hurt my wallet but my silly little EMachines only came with a 250W power supply and can barely push my 9500GT card I have now. So, maybe now I can play with the big boys for awhile! (Or at least the bigger boys than what I had before! :-) )

After a week of testing my two GTS450's are both running on 923Mhz. This is the max overclock I am getting without increasing the voltage, and getting errors. I am using MSI Afterburner for the overclocking..
In comparison with the stock settings this is around ~18% performance improvement..

I only have one gts 450 and my RAC is around 10000, yours sould behigher, but it will take time to reach its max level....

also i hope your 550 wtt powersupply holds up.....i have a 600 wtt power supply, and a power meter in my system, it says 358 watts in total when SETI is running....

this link will help in figuring out some of the numbers for the video cards we have here, and what they are capable of

Thanks J., I shouldn't have any trouble with the 550W and if I do the manufacturer (Ultra) has a lifetime warranty on it. A funny thing though was that while I was looking around I noticed a couple of posts about my 9500GT. Seems they thought I should have at least a 400W power supply to run it. My little EMachines came stock with just a 250- 275W PS. I think that's why I've been getting a few -1 errors. If I keep piddling around like I have been though the only thing that will still be EMachines is the namestamp on the front! :-)

One thing I'm wondering about though is whether or not the 450GT will run two WUs at a time. Seems to be a slight disagreement on that. It is the 1000MB model. I guess I can give it a try but it would be nice to know in advance if it's worth it.

Well, my new 450 and power supply are out sight seeing here in the Daytona area. I feel like going out and running down the UPS truck but I'm sure I could never get the right one. Well, a couple more hours won't kill me I guess. Sure am anxious though. Want to get started installing them so I'll be ready for when we come back up. Looks like I'll be a little late though. I'm sure the boys will get things fixed before I can get going again.

Okay, all installed and running happily. First task just finished. Run time 22 minutes and 33 seconds. http://setiathome.berkeley.edu/result.php?resultid=1784680949 GPU temp is showing at 55C with the fan at 50%. ~60% to 90% GPU usage. Core clock at 822 shader at 1645 and memory at 1804. These are what it came with, haven't played with OCing it yet. In the set up guide it said they recommend 400w minimum so my new 550w should be fine. Looks like I'm all set. :-)

Running 2 at a time or only one?

Midrange on my 460 it looks like I am doing around 23 minutes with 2 at a time, so 12.5 minutes per WU. 800/1600/1800

I'm only running one right now. I want to see what it does before I start playing with it. Remember though, mine is just the GTS 450 so it should be slower than your 460. We'll see how it goes as it gets broken in.

Well, I was hoping things would be caught up by this morning but none of my new work has validated yet. I seem to be turning in good numbers but I'm seeing a lot of -9s. (A lot more than I'm used to seeing anyway!) Won't know until the validators catch up if they are really good or not. Here's hoping!

I have no Problems to do two Workunits at a time on my GTS450.
In one of my Rigs i have three of them. One with 1GB and two
with 512MB Memory. CPU-Z and MSI Afterburner shows a workload
of 486MB, so no Problem to run two at a time on a 512MB Card.

Thanks Helli, that's good to know. I want to wait until I see for sure I'm getting good results first before I play with it though. I'd hate to do it now and then find out I'd just doubled up on bad work. The ones I've already turned in look okay so far but without validation it's hard to tell. I am a little concerned about the number of -9s I'm getting. It is probably just a noisy tape but..... Time will tell and I am an impatient sort of guy. If they don't get things running right by this afternoon I might just go ahead and change it if the rest of my work looks okay.
