My virus detector found a trojan horse today.
It was blocked however I would like to know if it was really a virus. If so how did it get sent through SETI.
If not what was it that the virus program did not like.
Any help would be great.
Thanks

It called a false positive. The fancier they make their algorithm the more likely they will find something that looks like a virus especially in the data files. I long ago stopped scanning the Boinc folders since I know the source is safe. Anti virus programs look for certain sequences that might indicate a virus. Since the data is basically random characters they can easily contain one of these pattern, it doesn't mean it's a virus. It just means that the anti-virus software is jumping to conclusions.

Any download from Seti would have been data files. There are no virus in data files. Your AV shouldn't be deleting things without asking? This is over aggressive software.

I'd contact the company and complain.
