SO, eat your christmas tree, or better yet, get a frontal lobotomy.

And, buddy......this is a response to one I consider as a friend.

You haven't answered the question Mark. How many people are you willing to fry in order to have a nice Christmas?

How about the other side of that coin? How many people are you willing to deprive of a beautiful Christmas (or any other) experience because a small number of idiots MIGHT cause a fire? How did we survive all these years before we had all these regulations and regulators to tell us we were doing something unsafe, and to STOP IT THIS INSTANT, under penalty of law?

You cannot prevent stupidity, no matter how stringent you make and enforce the rules. At some point it becomes tyrany, the tyrany of petty bureaucrats and small minds. At some point, common sense (uncommon as it may sometimes be) must prevail.

Donald.....may I call you that?
I have a dear old uncle by that name.

Anyways.....you have my heart in mind.

Society these days seems to think that 'protecting' us all is more important than limiting our freedoms to do so.

Such a sick way of going about things.

The 'whack them all' state of mind is so sad.

As much as I might like to 'whack em all' .....

I know it's not the right response. And would still myself when the ricochet hits.

Always beware of the ricochet.

It will get you every time.

What come around goes around.
Bing, bing bing. It does not stop until it hits somebody.

Mark, most days I answer to anything that isn't obscene or "Late for Dinner".

Society these days seems to think that 'protecting' us all is more important than limiting our freedoms to do so.

As I see it, there is a fine line between protecting those who cannot protect themselves, and unduly restricting the actions of rational, free adult men and women, because somebody "might" do something that would cause harm to themselves or others. When government, or private organizations, attempt to regulate our conduct based on their perception of what "might" cause harm, instead of what "will" cause harm, they overstep their bounds and infringe on our individual rights to be individuals, and to live our lives as we see fit. There must be a balance struck, between the "greater good" to society, and the cost to the rights and freedoms of the individual.

I see this thread has been moved into the Politics forum. Probably a good thing. But having had my say on the issue, I will step down from my soapbox, and bid you all a safe and happy good evening.

Noticed that too.........
But my eamil is down, so I don't know who did it, or what their justification was.

Not that it matters much, as the mods are beyond reproach here.

You have a good one too.

Meow.

Christmas is almost upon us and everyone is filled with good will to all men and women. Except my landlords it seems. This is the letter I received from them today. Is it just me or does this seem a little over the top?

{image deleted}

I shall go ask them tomorrow if I need to remove other similar 'combustible' items such as books, paper, cardboard, wood furniture etc etc.

Feel free to post any "Bah Humbug" moments you come across this Christmas so I don't feel so alone.

You do realize that there have been reported cases of human combustion. I guess you'll have to move out too.

Mark, we Mods didn't make the rules. The Seti Admins did and do. You were a Mod once too, so you know what it entails.

I do.......but I considered 'non modding' to be a primary thing.

Some do not.

The words left untouched are some of the best.
