IN THE NEWS:

Once Upon a Time, In a Galaxy Far, Far Away
Astronomers have confirmed that a galaxy detected by the Hubble telescope is the most distant object ever observed. This galaxy, called UDFy-38135539, is 13.12 billion light-years from Earth. Because of the time it takes for light from such a distant galaxy to reach Earth, experts believe the light they observed was emitted when the universe was just 600 million years old. Prior to this finding, the most distant confirmed galaxy was one 12.93 billion light-years from Earth and the most distant observed object of any kind was a gamma-ray burst that originated 13.09 billion light-years away
