Message 1027249 - Posted: 22 Aug 2010, 3:04:21 UTC

I have received several dozen WUs marked for the GPU that are VLARs today (according to the old rescheduler). According to it, I now have (after reschedule) 200+ VLARs, of which less than half are marked by SETI as .vlar_x

Is there a new problem with the servers?

wow, thanks for the warning. I checked and found 77, which I quickly pushed to the CPU now. I guess the first big batch of ghosts is being resent now.

Looks like most of them are resends (_2 or _3) of tasks originally generated in early July, BEFORE the .vlar flag and server changes were added.

Due to the problems with ghost WUs, people who just quit and let their WUs time out, and the new longer time limits for returning results, we will probably be seeing these resends for another 2-3 months.

Patience remains not just a virtue, but a necessity.

'Message 1027313'

In short.. - ~ 30 % VLARs (no .vlar_x ending) on GPU.

IIRC a message of Joe, with worst case, we could see up to ~ 2 years re-sent VLAR WUs on GPUs.

So it's still recommended (a must) to use Fred's BOINC Rescheduler.

It's not good, I've rescheduled and finished some of these ghost resends, and my completion times on new GPU work is already 70% or so higher then it should be. I then adjust DCF/flops but new work again have the higher times.

I like the old times with no server meddling with this stuff...

In the last weeks i've got no .vlar on my GPU-only Rigs. But Today i got 287 Workunits
marked as VLAR. Not old, unmarked, Workunits.

Did they change anything?

My guess is yes, they changed tapes that they split. :-)

Hmm - I thought VLAR Workunits are only assigned to the CPU...

WUs with ".vlar" in the names are for CPU. The problem is that some (older?) WUs that ARE vlars are not so labelled, and ARE assigned to GPUs; I have gotten a few more recently. I used the OLD rescheduler to reassign them to CPU.

I also have vlar assigned to GPU's

VLAR pic

First one downloaded (or was assigned to) my computer at 8:53:58 PM last night

Just moved 105 VLAR from GPU to CPU. Last reschedular run last night at midnight.

Sorry, misunderstood you. I've got Fred's reschedule tool running every 6 hours so I don't see such things. I checked the log and it said it moved a couple over early this morning.

That's ok if you use your GPU ANDCPU. ;-)

Just curious..

Why you don't crunch on your CPU/s?

Well, it's easy. My ten GPU's have reached my personally limit of the electricity bill. ;-)

This vlar being assigned to GPU's is going to be a very big problem for me. They can be moved to the CPU's but I foresee a large number of -177 (too much time used) errors in my future.

I have moved 200 (total) on my 4 boxes but many more are waiting to download before I can reschedule them.
