I'm sorry for anyone who loses a pet. It's a hard thing. We lost two out of our three cats in the last year. :-(

On a lighter note. When I noticed the thread title, this is what came to mind...

Hi all, sorry I haven't visited for so long. Things haven't been going too well down here. If you remember, about a year or so ago my sister and I took a bunch of our cats to Caboodle Ranch, a cat sanctuary here in Florida. About two months ago, PETA got the place raided.

They sent in one of their members to pose as a volunteer and he took videos of the cats in the sick ward and an old trailer that was going to be junked. He also took pics of an old refrigerator that was going to the junk yard with the old trailer and made it seem like they were still being used. The trailer was boarded up and was supposed to be kept locked. They made the video of the sick cats look like it was all the cats up there were in the same shape. One of the cats they videod had lost one of it's hind legs. He was scaring it to make it try to run. I had seen that cat when I was up there. It had been brought to the ranch that way from West Virginia and came up to us right along with the others we met while we were there. It was fine so long as it didn't try to run around.

They took this "evidence" to the county sheriff and a states attorney who then ordered the ranch closed and the cats confiscated. They are being held by ASPCA in a warehouse up in Jacksonville as evidence until after the court decides what to do with them. There are almost 700 cats being held in cages wondering what happened to them. One of the people that worked with the ranch, from home in North Carolina, came down after the raid to do what she could to help out. Craig, the owner, let her stay on the property. A deputy saw her and noticed she had her cats with her. She showed him vet records proving the cats were hers and he told her there would be no problem. A while later he came back with a warrant and seized her cats too. They have not been allowed to see their cats since the raid and are really heart broken over all this. They are fighting it in court and hope to have the kitties home soon.

If anyone would like to give some words of support or help out in any way they have a facebook page... http://www.facebook.com/pages/Caboodle-Ranch-Inc/143028025710287 They have been getting people from all over the world writing in in support of them. As I said, I've been there, I know what PETA is saying is a pack of lies. This place was a godsend for many, many kitties that otherwise would have no home.

Thanks Mark, that's what everyone that's posted on that site have been saying. It seems like the instigating factor in all this was a bill going through the Florida legislature about animal welfare. It was supposed to mandate any cat caught by animal control and not adoptable or not claimed by their owners be turned over to a sanctuary like Caboodle Ranch. PETA, in their infinite wisdom, opposed this bill and needed something to use as an example to fight the passage of it. They decided to destroy Caboodle Ranch to do it.

This might look like an ad but this lady has set up a deal where if you buy Avon products from her they make a donation to Caboodle Ranch...

Theresa Kennedy Its basically a purchase made on avon bath products using a unique code at checkout. The person buying gets a product while you earn money from its purchase. It works all over the nation! My website has more info: http://youravon.com/theresakennedy

The code is 4caboodlecats

Mark, I've already sent an email to the Governor. And I've been posting about this in as many places as I can.

Thanks for posting the website Mark. It's been awhile since they've updated. Nanette used to do the website for them from her home in North Carolina but when they took her cats they also took her laptop. :(

As to me sending a letter to the county's Attorney, since it's been over a year since I was there I'm letting those that have been there recently send all those letters in. That way they can see how great it was within just a couple of weeks of the raid. The Sheriff and the the County Council never visited the Ranch even though they were invited to come any time they would have liked to visit. The County Animal Control had inspected the Ranch many times and other than some minor problems gave it a clean bill of health. The owner always worked hard to correct any problems found. He was also working with a local vet to make sure all the animals got the care they needed and they were in the process of getting them all chipped and any needing neutered done when the raid occurred. When they came in with the warrant he was standing outside with a bag of dry food just starting to give them their breakfast.

Thanks again Mark. This is a link to the Caboodle Ranch facebook page.. http://www.facebook.com/pages/Caboodle-Ranch-Inc/143028025710287

There are links there for either petitions supporting the ranch or to make donations for lawyer fees and such as well as phone numbers and addresses for the officials involved in this. (County government, Fla.Governor,County Sheriff Ect.) It's also the place where all the supporters are posting their thoughts about all this. The petition of support has over 11,000 signatures already but it can always find room for a few more.
