From what little I understand.. they have more problems at the moment than Oscar can solve.

If 5000 participants each donated $100 the project would have enough money to really consider possible expansion rather than just minimal maintenance. Or 50000 participants (less than a third of active participants) donating the minimum $10 would do the same. Could we get some kind of counter on the site showing how many people have donated so far, and how far along they are to a certain goal? I'm sure as we get closer to meeting the goal, more people would be inspired/willing to donate (perhaps due to some sense of competition... try to be the one to push it past the goal line). Right now it's like we're donating blind, no idea where the money is going, how much they have, how much they need, etc. ____________

Or 50000 participants (less than a third of active participants) donating the minimum $10 would do the same. The SETI@home Donation History Since 1 Oct 2008 page has good information, and the SETI@home Budget - Fall 2008 shows how they planned to spend the amount they were asking users to contribute. So they asked for $548200.00 for one year and have gotten $224420.82 in the two years since. You can go down the list of items on the budget and figure out what has been dropped or deferred. I'll note that some hardware donations by Intel and Overland Storage should also be considered. Joe

Maybe somebody can explain why these sentences "SETI@home is a nonprofit educational and research organization that relies heavily on donations to continue its work. We are deeply grateful to all the individuals and organizations that have donated to SETI@home." are buried on the Sponsor page and not shown prominently on the Home page.

Everything's fine... I just received a word :-) Thank you for your e-mail and your on-line gift. Your gift to SETI@Home did go through correctly. There have been some problems with our website for the last day or two with donors receiving error messages when the gifts have gone through correctly. I did confirm that your gift was processed correctly and generated an e-mail receipt which you should have received a short while ago Now I can visit Mark's thread! ____________ Who the hell is General Failure and why is he reading my harddisk?¿

Anyone know if tax-efficient donations can be made to SETI from UK? Like Gift Aid or Deed of Covenant. Seems a shame not to make use of this additional money. Roger

I just want all of those that have donated to know that many of us who have not, do appreciate your gifts. Personally, I am unable to help in that respect. My computer is assembled from junk computers that I have pieced together. Otherwise, I would be unable to participate in the program. I may not live long enough to see the discovery of another civilization ( 74 years old) , but I do believe they are out there!

PayPal will give you a temporary card number that you can use to make a donation. The funds are drawn from your PayPal balance and there is no actual card to have to worry about. Your arguments for not donating are weak. I've never donated anything more than CPU time myself but I've also never claimed it was SETI's fault that I don't donate. If you don't want to or can't then don't. It's pretty simple really. I was inspired... it's not much but it's another drop in the bucket. Thank you for your gift of $20.00 via Visa on 11/11/2010. Your gift was assigned to the following areas: SETI@home - $20.00 Your confirmation number is: 64141 ____________

Well I do not have any credit card, I refuse using credit cards, having the perhaps unusual philosophy in todays society, that if I do not have the money to buy things, then maybe I shouldn't buy them at all. This argument is not valid. I also refuse to use my ATM card on the internet for any purpose but I will use my credit card and then pay off the ballance when the bill comes. No problem and no interest charges. ____________ Boinc....Boinc....Boinc....Boinc....
