Just wondering if this oil spill gets big enough if it could in someway mess with the gulf current that keeps Europe warm? Just saw a commercial about the little Ice Age and wonder if it could happen again. Official Abuser of Boinc Buttons... And no good credit hound! |

Just wondering if this oil spill gets big enough if it could in someway mess with the gulf current that keeps Europe warm? Just saw a commercial about the little Ice Age and wonder if it could happen again. I wouldn't have thought so, unless there are some unforeseeable serious knock-on effects. A grave concern is how badly the affected (very large area and volume) will become denuded of oxygen as bacteria break down the oil droplets. There is scope for a vast dead zone to be created that could wipe out a large part of the spawning ground for species including tuna. Another knock-on effect is that most sea life in that area may well become too toxic to eat due to the type of dispersants used. If the oil significantly changed the albedo for the ocean across that area, that could well have an effect on the weather and ocean currents. I wonder if the oil slick could reduce evaporation enough to affect the rainfall pattern elsewhere? Regardless, it's still one hell of an unnecessary mess! Now that operation 'Top Spill' has been so succesful I don't think we need to worry about world wide effects, besides it will eventualy run out of oil, and heck its a realy big ocean so no worries. Heck they made 6 billion profit last year so we could fine them about 600 million (pocket change) and let them drill baby drill. And to show them just how greatful we are we should give them sole drilling writes to the alaska and artic wild life refuges so that we can have a world slip and slid amusement park. And we know that the open door employment agrement that has been set up between BP and the governmental inspectors is a solid way to keep the quality very high. In about 10 years when I take my kids to the sludge pond formaly know as the ocean we can lounge in our chairs with SPF 1000 sun cream on to protect us from UV rays that are getting through to the earth because the ozone layer has been depleated If you want it bad, you get it bad |

It amazes me that there is no "Plan B" in place in case something goes wrong. They've been fighting for the right to "Drill baby Drill" (shades of Sarah Palin.) |

Now they are saying that the spill could keep going until August. Giant plumes under the sea, hope they don't mess with the Gulf Stream or mini Ice Age could strike again. Wonder how large amounts of oil would affect currents? Official Abuser of Boinc Buttons... And no good credit hound! |

Wonder how large amounts of oil would affect currents? Not exactly sure. However, I heard the coming North Atlantic Hurricane Season is a *GOOD* thing because it will whip the crude up and disperse it. Which means it will break down much more easily. Tar doesnt disperse well. the lighter products unfortunately can be more readily be evaporated and absorbed into the clouds which rain down the poison inland. I'm not so sure how happy I'd be if I had light crude raining on my farm. In a rich man's house there is no place to spit but his face. Diogenes Of Sinope |

My immediate personal concern (I live in Florida) is some sort of ungodly oil hurricane coming our way. Hurricane season just started and it looks to be a busy one. Oh man how would you clean that up, entire states covered in oil? |

Not looking good. Computer simulation suggests "Summer Of Oil" for entire Atlantic Coast, and possibly Europe. - Luke. |

AS I've said elsewhere, BP should be taken out of private ownership and become a publicly run and accountable outfit. It used to be....until Thatcher the Snatcher. Don't take life too seriously, as you'll never come out of it alive! |
