The old days of GT graphics cards were easier to understand...

The thousands placeholder designated the generation (i.e. '8')... The hundreds placeholder displayed the GPU's power within the generation (i.e. '1' low '9' high)... the tens placeholder would display any revisions if necessary... a 'M' after the 4 digit number signifies a mobile graphics card, and then a letter designation on the end designating power (i.e. 'GS', 'GT', 'GTS', 'GTX').

I understand nVidia got to the end of current number scheme, so they went to the hundreds, that's easy enough to understand. So, where was the GT100 series??? Have nVidia released mobile GT200 GPU's??? Are we skipping GT300 and going straight to GT400 series??? Look at the number gaps between the GT200 series... nothing that's mentionable below 260, then 270, then 280, then 285, then 295, and then there is the Core 216 variant of the 260...

Geez, they're blazing through the latest number system.

when you look at it a lot of the Nvidia card numbers are old ATI numbers and now ATI is getting close to reusing their old numbers. I assume thats why both have changed their numbering schemes
