Dear users, I've bought Win7 today, the upgrade version.. I'm currently using SETI@HOME, will these results be lost or even deleted if I upgrade? Thanks in advance :) |

you could copy your boinc folders to a thumb drive and then install the upgrade. I would assume that the upgrade would leave the files in place but not allow them to start when the computer starts up. After the upgrade just put the files where they were before the Upgrade then install BOINC making sure the files are sent to the ones you just dropped in from the thumb drive. I upgraded an Intel Core 2 Quad Q9550 from Vista Home Premium 64bit to Windows 7 Ultimate 64bit without issue. I'm sure everything will go fine, but as with any OS upgrade, always make sure you have a recent backup of everyting just in case something goes wrong. |

If you are upgrading from 32 to 32 or 64 to 64, I would expect no problems at all. 32 to 64 might work. 64 to 32 won't (is this even allowed by M$?) BOINC WIKI |

I've never seen anyone go from 64 to 32. |

I got the upgrade working, Win7 is looking quite nice. I only got a (small) problem: When I used Vista, I turned on the option to let Boinc use the GPU while it was working. Now with Win7, everything is going extremely slow, I haven't changed anything yet accept that the program is allowed only to use 75% of the processors (got a Quad). Specs: Intel Core 2 Quad Q9950 @2,83 Ghz 4 GB Memory (2.94 can be used) Nvidia Gforce 9600GT Windows 7 Home Premium 32-bit Does anyone know way everything is suddenly going so slow after upgrading? |

I got the upgrade working, Win7 is looking quite nice. Make certain that you have the most recent drivers and firmware for the video card. BOINC WIKI |

he may want to ask on the CUDA thread about the slowness and the GPU functioning. As I recall the newest versions of the Nvidia drivers were slower than the 191.XX drivers. You'll need to check to be sure In a rich man's house there is no place to spit but his face. Diogenes Of Sinope |

I installed a different driver for the graphics-card now, after first having 196.21 for Vista. That didn't completely work on Win7 I think. (I thought that the upgrade would change this) I've also heard that the series of drivers now days are a bit slower, so I installed 191.07 for Win7. It now seems that everything is oké, nothing is slow anyone. Sometimes a bit but that's no problem. With Folding@home (not sure if I may post this?), my normal production was around 270ns/day, with 191.07 it's around 295ns/day. A big difference! Thanks for all the answers everyone :) |
