This deserves it's own thread.

Just a month or so ago,
Mel Brooks was honored at the Kennedy Center honor show.

No other man alive deserved it more than he.

Please enjoy this repost of that show........what you did NOT see.....and I shall look for a link.......
Is the dance show and tribute that included 'Springtime for Hitler'...which left many in the audience absolutely aghast........f them. PC in this time has gone too far. In the day and age in which it was presented........it was just hilarious. As Mel intended it to be.

OMG.....somebody DID preserve it.

Mel at his best.......

Get past your perceived problems to view this.......

God Bless Mel..............

The audience just could not believe they had the balls to do this....................
But they did what was right.

Mel did in his day and age what he saw fit to make fun of........that's what he did......

F you idiots if you cannot see, even 50 years or more hence,,,,,,,,,,,what the humor is in 'Springtime foe Hitler'......

IT WAS a Breoadway show......you dimbbwits.........not a polit6ical statement.0

I sat my kids down and watched The Producers. They didnt even realize it was a musical until I pointed it out to them.

Your kids will be better educated for it..\

The crowd at the awards show was so aghast at the Hitler clip that they showed their ignorance of history and that sometimes one can try to make light of it.

Stupid, stupid, stupid. Ignorant in the extreme.

Mel was not embracing Hitler.......he was making fun of his sorry ass..................the simpletons just did not see that...........
I did, 30 years ago.

Brooks got similar criticism over the years over ‘Blazing Saddles’ and the repeated use of the ‘N’ word.

Some less-than-brilliant folks couldn’t grasp that Brooks was pointing out the idiot-level of intelligence demonstrated by most racists.

Perhaps a new production entitled "Springtime at the Mexican Border" would be in order.
Naaa...that would be too deep for those who lay claim to "getting it".

Which side of the border were you thinking of? I can see the same title for both sides for very different reasons.

My reference was to msattler's side of the border.
More specifically, the side of the border found inside his head.

But, he has gone and gotten himself booted again. I was hoping to call him to task over his insult filled ravings.
A lot of people get what Brooks was saying Mark. That's why he's considered such a comic genius.
No need to lay the insults on us.

Thanks mods.......

I really did not mean to insult anybody.

Mel has always had a different view of the world than some.

As do I.

It's what keeps things spinning.

Some of us just have to keep the mind running all the time.....and sometime my mouth runs off a bit too much.

Robert can lay into me now if he still thinks it necessary.

I have repeatedly told you folks that I am neither bigoted nor racist...
I have posted about where my mindset came from and my dealings with it.

Black, white, whatever.....I don't hate anybody.

I only hate some things that social/political lines have drawn and the reality that we here in the USA can't save everybody.

It's about time we saved ourselves.

You really seem like a decent man when you aren't raving Mark.

I don't need to lay into you. What I need is for you to show that you are trying to control the anger as hard as some of us are trying to understand the cause of it.

For myself, most of your political and social views are so far to the right that we'll never agree.
No problem. That's what civil discourse is for.
We don't have to agree and we're free to have our opposite opinions.

Please try to not insult those who do not agree with you.

Thanks Robert.

I shall try.......again.

Just try to understand that I express my views unvarnished.

And maybe sometimes that is a little too much for some to handle.

I don't whitewash what I say.

Is that really a bad thing?

Hell no.
I say what I think too.
But I try to do it in a manner which doesn't belittle the other person for thinking differently.
Once you've taken the stand that people who disagree with your view are (insert insults here) it makes it impossible for one to ever change their opinion.

I try to stay open minded on issues while presenting my views and as more information comes forth I find that my stands are valid or I find myself moving a bit from that position. Social and political views are fluid and are subject to modification by the individual based on further experiences and information.

I like to think that people can have respect for me as someone who has thought the issue through and come to an semi-intelligent conclusion.
The respect shouldn't be based on agreement but on the effort made to reach the position.

I should add that I try to maintain that civil standard but once in a while I fall off the track too.

Don't we all.......

I run off the rails more often than some.
Train wreck, I am....LOL.

It's the the time or two that we understand each other the makes the discourse worthwhile............

Thank you, Robert.

As a long time people watcher and lurker on these boards, I think the discussion between Robert and Mark pretty well sums up the differences between Canadians and Americans.

Not saying one is right and one is wrong, just saying that the two can be saying similar things in such different ways that they often lead to heated discussions over not much of anything.

Hope the US mods leave this post. Thank you (in joke for the Canucks).

Another thread gone totally off a great topic...so much for it being a tribute to Mel Brooks.

It's become yet another self-serving, "Woe is Me that I implode...but now I'm back" thread....

I think Mel would be dissapointed.

And I see you have contributed something on the topic, eh?

Being my thread I can take it in whatever direction I wish.
