Whenever the BOINC client cannot communicate with a project server it signals a message "Deferring communication with project for x minutes ...".

How does BOINC decide how long to defer ? Pirates@home defers for 1 minute to start off. The others vary from 1 minute to 3 hours or more, and it changes from one time to the next. It just seems odd and random.

I suggest that we should be allowed to tell BOINC how long to defer, along with a suitable add-on time for each subsequent attempt, up to a maximum. For example: start with 1 hour and then add 50% for each time after that, but never defer more than 1 day.
