I sure don't know what you're talking about. I also have WU's uploaded, and they will report when the servers come online again. If you get too many units to report, then suspending crunching will stop them from accumulating.

Geeze, sometime I just don't understand the so called "problems" people feel they're having.

I guess my last post explained my 'probs'..

If you don't understand, that's not my prob.

I have 200 units to report on one machine. How many is too many?

It depend how fast your UL is.

I could suspend my UL/DL now.
But then the report file will be send in the same time the UL of the results will happen.

So I guess it's better to send only the report file.

I have only DSL light (384/64), more isn't possible here where I live.

I had probs to report ~ 1,600 results. The report lasts ~ 20 minutes or something.
After many, many, many and much more scheduler server error messages.

Phew...I won't have nearly that many by tomorrow and I have faster DSL. I also made sure I have enough to get through a weekend.

Postscript to the download problems we discussed at such length in panic (26): thanks largely to all the testing and suggestions in that thread, and thanks in particular to some sleuthing by Ned, a solution has been found. Ned and I have both tested it, and it works: there should be a new version of BOINC - I guess v6.10.22 - later today, and if vader lets go again next weekend we'll be ready for (him?) (her?) (it?).

Of course, Murphy dictates that the next SETI server to fail will be in a completely different part of the network, and will cause a completely different set of problems, but we'll cross that bridge when we come to it.

In the "FYI" category, the fix (revised libcurl) is being distributed with 6.10.24. This is an alpha version, so the usual warnings apply.

SETI is always a problem.
Cosmology@home doesn't seeem to fail in the same way, I can get CAMB workunits even when communication to SETI fails.
As usual, had to reboot the computer to make it send/receive properly to SETI.

Now I have a shedload (technical term) of CUDA to process, but no CPU units yet.
So all seems OK at the moment.

If you're seeing problems right now (not a few days ago) that a reboot fixes, there are some people that'd really like to know if 6.10.24 fixes it.

If you're grousing about last week, that problem is very likely fixed in 6.10.24, but we won't be able to really tell for sure until it happens again.

Hm, just noticed on the status page that the list of "tapes" has been cleared out, even though AP has not gotten a chance to split them.

I know there are AP issues on the backend, but I'm wondering if those tapes will be brought back online when AP gets fixed?

Well if they want to test the software I'm game for them causing the error. I imagine most people would just whine.

Is it better to suspend network activity in BOINC, or just let BOINC do its thing?

Already have about 50 uploads retrying.
I am shutting down network activity on 1 rig but have 500 downloads.
Will shut that rigs network down when th d/l's finish.

If you have BOINC V6.10.18 (the current recommended version) the UL/DL will suspended* automatically if 3 UL/DLs failed at one/this project.

[* retry after some time]

If you have also other projects in BOINC, they can communicate with their project servers.

Hmm.. the UL server is disabled. So someone done it.
Disabled: Program has been disabled by staff
(for debugging/maintenance)

It didn't failed.
Not Running: Program failed or ran out of work
(or the project is down)

The Berkeley crew is in vacation/holidays?

Then maybe someone of the cleaning crew of the campus came in the lab and on the server power switch?

It would be better if the Berkeley crew would announce this kind of activity..
