Hi all this evening my laptop, which I have on all of the time has downloaded 15 tasks, all with a deadline of 02/12/2009, and a runtime of 3:33:01. Does anyone know why all of sudden these have appeared - it isnt a problem at all but I was wondering why all of a sudden i had a massive list to get through! I was also wondering why they only have such small runtimes? of of these tasks: http://setiathome.berkeley.edu/result.php?resultid=1425215460 just a question be nice to know what they are! |

Does anyone know why all of sudden these have appeared - it isnt a problem at all but I was wondering why all of a sudden i had a massive list to get through! They're just a bunch shorties. You'll get through them quicker than longer WU's so BOINC compensates by giving you more work. Right now I have noticed a few distinct types of WU's: 32 credit short WU's 48 credit standard WU's 85-92 credit long WU's 115-125 credit 'marathon' WU's. It's just your luck you scored a few shorties, next time you might only get 3 long WU's - Luke. - Luke. |

yep your angle range is 8+ so thats a pretty high angle and a very short WU In a rich man's house there is no place to spit but his face. Diogenes Of Sinope |

I was also wondering why they only have such small runtimes? It depends on how the telescope was being "steered" relative to the sky being recorded. Different (deeper) analysis is possible if the telescope is "moving slowly" than when it is scanning across the sky quickly. |

sorry can i also ask do these equal to better credit? i have done one task already and i have got 32 credits for it. "equal" is relative. There are some "angle ranges" that "pay" better than others, but in a broad sense, credit is fairly proportional to time. |

ok kool guys, mny usual work units are are 8-9 hours worth, but thats ok, when you say a long work unit how long is classed as long? Depends how powerful your computer is. I can get a shorty done in about 25 minutes, but a 120 credit might take me nearly 3 hours. It's all relative to the power of your PC. - Luke. - Luke. |

I rarely get shorties but I know the 120 credit Wu's take me just over 2 hours on my fast machine. and 3-4 hours on my old phenom 9500 In a rich man's house there is no place to spit but his face. Diogenes Of Sinope |

now done four tasks and the queue is upto 20 of these jobs - gulp! BOINC is adjusting for the expected run-time. It's very conservative when it comes to possibly missing deadlines. No worries. |

now done four tasks and the queue is upto 20 of these jobs - gulp! But if new tasks got downloaded, there can't be any in High Priority any longer. So, nothing to worry about ;-) Gruß, Gundolf Computer sind nicht alles im Leben. (Kleiner Scherz) SETI@home classic workunits 3,758 SETI@home classic CPU time 66,520 hours |

Thats 30 hours work. And you have 2 weeks to complete it. No worries. As long as you machine runs for 2-3 hours per day it will do the work on time. Check your settings for the amount of cached work, default is .25. but it can be set up to 10 days. |

If your value for "Connected about every XX days" is beyond or near the due date your tasks will also always run in high priority mode. SETI@home classic workunits: 93,865 CPU time: 863,447 hours Join the [url=http://tinyurl.com/8y46zvu]BP6/VP6 User Group[ |
