Hi All, I've just been doing some general reading about SETI and SETI@home and came across a bit about "SETI Southern hemisphere" My question is, will SETI move to try and search the Southern hemisphere? I have a few views and points about something like this Andrew |

Arecibo clearly will not move. Funds are low simply to run the existing receiver at Arecibo, so where would the funds come from to run another, much less to build another? |

I think SETI Institute can approach Australia or New Zealand government to work and fund together. Or SETI has already had a plan to scan the Southern Hemisphere after the mega development plans telescope in South Africa is complete. And to my knowledge, Dan Werthimer, chief scientist of SETI@Home, early of this month gave a public lecture there N = R x fp x ne x fl x fi x fc x L |

My original thought was that if SETI@home was able to expand to this level they would get the extra funding and also potentially extra power. As its a new bit of sky/space to scan, to me its saying its a fresh start and so people might get a bit more involved again? Andrew |

Southern Seti@home. This project once had plans for utilising data from Parkes...but it seems none of the current SETI folks are aware of those plans. |
