I just downloaded Boink and chose seti. Installed fine but now when I look in the Boink manager and then check the tasks, it tells me there is 251 hours before download is complete. I wonder why so long? and just how big a file will it be? Thank you. |

As far as I know, BOINC does not give a time estimate until download complete, but rather a percentage complete display. Are you sure it's not the processing length of time that will take 251 hours as is common for AstroPulse workunits, which is what you received according to your account? |

Note that processing estimate is high since Boinc is consevative to start with and still needs to learn how fast your system is. My guess is your computer can do an Astropulse Work Unit in under 100 hrs. Mutibeam enhanced WU will be done in less then 10 hrs. Boinc will need to complete several WU's before it starts giving accurate estimates. Boinc V7.2.42 Win7 i5 3.33G 4GB, GTX470 |

Note that his account indicates that he's using an AMD chip which the stock AstroPulse app seems to run much slower than Intel chips by almost up to 2.5x longer. |

Thank you guys. yes it's the processing that's taking the time. What made me confused was the fact that the old SETI had a really nice screensaver and when that started to process I could see the graphics and knew it was working. With this one, all I had as a screensaver was a graphic with the word Boink written on it. It does work now though but the graphic isn't as nice. Thank you once again for your replies. |

This SETI@home run throught BOINC still has the screensaver feature. Looks almost exactly like the old one. |

My screensaver on my Vista machine is the "Boinc" symbol one. One my XP machine, it's actually the graphics. Why would this be? I can't find ANY difference in how they are set up. Any ideas? |

The screen saver graphics are generated by code written by the project. If the project fails to provide a graphics module, BOINC supplies the BOINC Logo screen saver instead. BOINC WIKI |

Any ideas? Does the "Show graphics" button in the Tasks tab work on the vista machine (after highlighting a running task)? Gruß, Gundolf Computer sind nicht alles im Leben. (Kleiner Scherz) SETI@home classic workunits 3,758 SETI@home classic CPU time 66,520 hours |
