I want to change one of my crunchers over from Win98se to WinXP. What is the best proceedure for backing up Boinc, then restoring it after the OS swap? Also, I imagine this will create another client record in my account that won't be able to be merged? Thanks!

You can't. It will create a new entry as a new host and as soon as that happens, the returned work units under the new host id. will become invalid because the server is expecting them returned from the old host id.

You're either clearing out your current work queues or dropping the work units.

O.K., how do I ensure that it doesn't download any new work? I will make the switch after draining the queue.

Try changing the Connect to Network preference to 0 days.

Edit: I'm not positive about the Connect every 0 days either. I just tried it and it stopped asking for Pirates and LHC work that I'm out of but I still have Seti and Climate running.

Change the disk-setting "Leave at least N GB free" to be higher than your free disk space. This way you'll ask for more work but don't get anything.

The setting of connect every 0 days will AFAIK give atleast 1 wu...
