For the others, there's groupings whereby multiple candidates look to be on adjacent RA or Dec positions. Is that for real, or just a quirk of recent sampling or an artefact of RFI counts? From the NitPicker FAQ; Q: Why are so many candidates at the same Declination? A: Quite often the telescope at Arecibo is "parked" when not in use by other projects. When it's parked it is sitting at a single line of Declination (while the Right Ascension changes due to earth rotation). However, since we are collecting all the time we get an excess of data from these parked Declinations (like 18, which is quite common). ************** I think thats the reason Martin. John. |

How much of a diagonal sweep would an extraterrestrial source be expected to produce on these waterfall plots? Some plots seem to be very slightly diagonal; ending up at a fractionally smaller frequency than where they start out. However, I've no feeling for whether this very small frequency drift is interesting or is within the limits of what we'd expect to see for terrestrial RFI. |
