Noticed this on my regular read of the BBC News website. Decline of the blue box Whilst it deals with the US, I know I communicate almost totally electronically. Is there a future for the good old letter? Bernie |

My blue Mailbox that was a fixture down the street disappeared too. We did not receive a notice from the Postal Service. Pluto will always be a planet to me. Seti Ambassador Not to late to order an Anni Shirt |

I also now write letters very rarely. We should probably always write a real letter in the case of bereavement even if we normally communicate by email or telephone (assuming we know a real address.) Remember that people often save everything sent them when they get married, so an email is probably not enough then either. It also occurred to me recently, when attending a formal meeting, that that was the first time I had worn a tie for ages. |

Strange you should mention ties but I am 100% old school and my job has "manager" in the description, plus I sometimes have to represent my company to both customers and members of the public and I always wear a tie. Recently head office instigated a policy of "no ties" to make the atmosphere more "informal". So I still make a point of wearing my tie. How do you all feel about ties!!? Bernie. |

I think you should wear a tie, if you feel it apropriate. Being a chick, it looks very uncomfortable, like something my gender should wear. Personally, I think if the option is available, we should wear what we feel is right for the moment. Pluto will always be a planet to me. Seti Ambassador Not to late to order an Anni Shirt |

The writen letter is on the way out I think. Here in the states I hear the post office would like to stop Saturday mail delivery. I still will mail my bills because i still dont trust e-banking yet. But what will really get my goat is when they stop printing books. I love the feel and smell of the printed word,E-books do nothing for me. [/quote] Old James |

I still write lots of letters, contracts, estimates, etc. On an average day I will put about 7 to 10 items in the mail. That is down from what it once was, because I will send drafts electronically. Finals with wet ink signature always go hard copy. |

To me, the neck tie is a classic case of one invention not realizing its full potential until another invention comes along. For the tie, that other invention was the twist off beer bottle cap. No other reason to wear a tie. |
