A language on its own. If you understand it you should be well versed in German, English and Dutch.

Throw in a bit of Danish too.

Anyway, thanks to my Father and Oma, I at least understand it.

A long time ago, there was a thread dedicated to it.

During the heyday of the Hanseatic League the language was used in the entire Baltic and North Sea area (Germany, Sweden, Norway and Denmark) and was used by the merchants, diplomats and lawyers.
"Över de stillen Straaten geiht klar de Klockenschlag; God Nacht! Din Hart will slapen um Morgen is ok en Dag".
Even a Scandinavian person who has not read a word of German can comprehend these lines in one of the most famous Platt German poems.

A beautiful girl is "söt" not "süss". If a man becomes fascinated about her he begins perhaps "schnacken" with her and say "min Hart is din". If he gets refused he possibly can say "So'n Schit" and would the girl on top of everything being rude the plat German suitor might say "Hol they Schnut".

Buon anno a tutti:)

Clara Costazza ottava,

A cold front from Siberia has entered southern Italy, while snow is scarce on the Alps and ski resort places are using water cannons to produce snow for the ski trails, using much water and electricity, but tourists want to ski. Mount Etna has always both snow and lava on its peaks.
