E' uno svedese che parla un buonissimo italiano ed e' l'unico che scrive in italiano. Tutti gli italiani tacciono qui, mentre scrivono moltissimo sui blog di Le Scienze, edizione italiana di Scientific American.

I did not know of this battle. Napoleon's wars? I was thinking of the other battle, June 1918. The Austrians attacked and the Italian Army held them back, crossed the river and ended the war. From then on the Piave is a sacred river, almost like the Potomac. I have a vinyl disk with the song "All quiet along the Potomac tonight", which must have inspired the book "All quiet on the western front". by Erich Marie Remarque.

Erano riusciti a persuadere i fisici delle particelle elementari a investire risorse e uomini anche in un campo di ricerca lontano dai loro interessi. Virgo ha rivelato due onde gravitazionali il 14 e il 17 agosto scorsi, assieme agli interferometri LIGO americani. Il primo evento era dovuto alla fusione di due buchi neri, il secondo a quella di due stelle di neutroni. Proprio le osservazion di Virgo hanno permesso di restringere il campo da dove erano partite le onde, per cui anche i telescopi ottci, X e gamma hanno partecipato alla ricerca, assieme al satellite per raggi gamma Fermi della NASA, che fornisce anche dati a Einstein@home.

Ma i TG passano la notizia della morte di Riina. Gli rendono la memoria anche dopo morto a quella mer*****a umana, per usare un aggettivo fantozziano. Grazie per l'informazione Tullio.

A dire il vero neanche Le Scienze, edizione italiana di Scientific American, ha dato finora notizia della morte di Giazotto, che ho appreso da La Repubblica, che mantiene un buon livello di informazione scientifica. Ma Le Scienze e' troppo americaneggiante per i miei gusti. Ho collaborato con loro quando era diretta da Felice Ippolito come visiting editor. Una volta, avendo redazionato un articolo di SA sugli Intersecting Storage Rings (anelli di accumulazione) ho visto che non era neanche menzionato Bruno Touschek, un fisico austriaco che lavorava a Frascati. Ho protestato con Ippolito, che mi disse ne avrebbe parlato con Giorgio Salvini. Lo fece, e accanto all'articolo americano comparve un box firmato G.S. che spiegava il lavoro pionieristico di Touschek. Poco dopo ricevetti una lettera di Ippolito che poneva fine alla mia collaborazione con Le Scienze. Evidentemente gli americani avevano protestato.
