"It's like a big black hand has spread over our cities. No sleep because of the frequent quakes. Those who still lived inside rushed out this morning and stood petrified and watched as everything collapsed, "said the little town Tolentinos Mayor Giuseppe Pezzanesi.

Home destroyed, but also the monuments and buildings that are important for a city's history. In several cities, the churches split. One of the first images that Italian television showed this morning, men and women, nuns and monks, who prayed on his knees in front of the ruined cathedral in Norcia.

Every day there are recorded several earthquakes of varying strength in the area. Thousands of people have been evacuated and staying at hotels along the coast. Those who are still there are sleeping in tents or in their cars.

I am watching SKY TV via Internet from Umbria while the RAI, the State TV, still broadcasts the usual programs, talk shows and the like. I remember the Friuli earthquake of 1976, when I had to wait the next morning to learn what had happened at 21 pm the night before.

I haven't experienced an earthquake myself.
My GF though in the Philippines.
A 6+ magnitude that is VERY scary.
Sitting home watching TV was not an option.

I was living in a 14 store building in Milano when the quake hit Friuli. Walls started to whine when the building oscillated one meter right and one meter left. People started running downstairs, you don't use elevators in a quake. My wife asked me if we had to flee with two small children and I said no, if the building has not collapsed it is useless.

The theme of the service is "From conflict to the community" and is celebrated in a spirit of reconciliation and friendship.

The Pope had spoken in a Tempio Valdese in Torino. Now he has spoken in a Lutheran church. That is a big step forward for the Catholic Church.

Lund's cathedral was a Catholic church until the 16th century.
Churches works both in mysterious and in slow ways.
Here we "celebrate" the Protestant Reformation today.
500 years since Martin Luther came up with the idea.
And Il Papa is now here.
It took only 500 years that both the Lutheran church and the Catholic church have reached reconciliation and friendship...
But then again. Better late than never.

I have a book by Fulvio Tomizza, from Istria, about the life of Pier Paolo Vergerio, a Catholic bishop of Capodistria (now Koper) who became a Protestant and lived in Switzerland and died in Germany. The title of the book is "Il male viene dal Nord". I lived in Trieste near a street named after him but knew nothing about him.

Hehe:) A converter.
We also have one. Queen Kristina.
She was the daughter of Gustav II that fought catholics during the Thirty Year War and who died in battle in Lutzen, Germany.
After a couple years of reign she abdicated and converted to catholicism and moved to Italy.
She is buried in the St Peter's church.

Pope Francis is a big fan of the football team San Lorenzo de Almagro - a team that belongs to "the big five" in Argentine football. On the plane between Italy and Sweden, SVT photographer Pablo Torres had a brief chat about the favorite team with the Pope.

Still more shocks. People do not want to leave their towns and ask for tents, even if the temperature is lowering. Containers will be available before Christmas.

Many farmers are refusing to leave their farms because they don't want to abandon their livestock.

Darn. Frida Hansdotter shared second place after the first run, but fell in the middle of the second run.
- It's crap sad, she says.
