Electric bike sales are soaring in Italy. You don't need a driving license and an insurance. Very bad.

Same here.
To me it doesn't matter as such.
But when they are driving at narrow pedestrian walkways behind your back and starting to scream at you to step aside!
Electric bikes are quite fast and it's not fun to be hit by one.
Even ordinary cyclists have started to do this.
One got really p***ed off when I didn't stepped aside and he actually throw his bike at me!
Heck. Use the roads!

ESA astronaut Paolo Nespoli,60, will launch Friday from Baikonur to go to the ISS with an American and a Russian companion. This will be his third space mission but I believe he was a Shuttle crew member on the first. Go Paolo!

My HP laptop running SuSE Linux Leap 42.2 refused to boot last evening after a crash. I have run all BIOS tests on it and there is no problem on the RAM and the disk. Then I tried to install Leap 42.3 on it and it stops at "searching system files". Then I left it running memtest all night and tried again. No luck. Then I installed Solaris 11.3 from a DVD and had no problem. But Solaris has no BOINC client so I can't run any BOINC project. It was running SixTrack of LHC@home. Sorry.

Game over for Solaris and SPARC?
Oracle kills Solaris development, lays off Sun hardware workers. The conclusion is inevitable.
http://www.networkworld.com/article/3160176/hardware/game-over-for-solaris-and-sparc.html
I have worked a lot with SunOS and later Solaris computers.
Almost have to say RIP.
But still they seems to work on computers that Linux cannot handle:)

Scott McNealy, former SUN boss, said that had Solaris been free Linux would not even exist. Solaris cost a lot of money, now it is free. Too little, too late.

The Virgo French/Italian interferometer near Cascina, Pisa, has started taking data today according to a press release of the Istituto Nazionale di Fisica Nucleare which manages it. It will go on until August 25, the end of the second run of the LIGO interferometers. A detection by three instruments instead of two should be able to pinpoint the source with more accuracy. I am not sure if Virgo will give data to Einstein@home but I hope so.

Vuelta shall start tomorrow but Spain has been hit by terrorists. My sympathy to the Spanish people. My son and his family has recently visited Madrid and my sister-in-law is Spanish, so I feel close to Spain.

The Stage one Team Time Trial just started in France in the ancient Roman amphitheatre in Nîmes,

Sad that terrorists are spoiling so much again...
Like Contador, Froome also expressed solidarity with the victims of the Barcelona and Cambrils terror attacks, later telling local television in French in a separate interview that "it's something very, very hard to comprehend. The Ramblas [avenue in Barcelona, where the first attacks took place] is somewhere families go out to walk together, it's hard to see the images." As he concluded, "We can only express our greatest sympathy for the victims of the attacks."

Italian RAI TV has broadcast an European Championship held in Denmark for both men and women. It is not covering the Vuelta, so I don't have any timely information, I shall have to read the papers the next day.

Warming up in the first stage in the Vuelta.
Rohan Dennis pull on the first red jersey of this Vuelta as leader of the general classification.
Next stage is Nîmes to Narbonne on their way to Spain.
Passing Sète and Agde (Marseillan-Plage) where I have spent some time many years ago:)
