New items.. some bug fixes and speed increases.
More stable
New 'Retry File Transfer' Button !
Runs in native 32 OR 64 bit Windows XP and Vista.
A tester, FiveHamlet, is running BDN on an Atom based Netbook with no problems.
You can get it at the support site.

Here are a few pics of BDN in action..
Enjoy

Why exactly does this do that the official client does not?

BDN is designed for monitoring many machines running projects at the same time.. Most refer to this as a 'Farm' or a 'Crunching Farm'.
If you are running one system, this is not required and Boinc Manager will do a wonderful job for you. If you are however, running multipal computers, this program makes this a much easier task by allowing very easy control of these machines from one computer.

I hope that answered your question :)

Will this program automatically discover other machines on my local network or will I have to manually set that up?

How about computer outside my network/at other houses?

There is a lot of info at the support site regarding all this..
BDN will find them on your lan with the click of a button but u will need to setup 2 files on each host so that BDN can connect, It is for security purposes.
For some basic info, see if the answers you are seeking are here

Hi Mike
Just noticed your new BDN ver 0.2.39
I have installed it on my main rig and on my Samsung N110 Netbook.
I must say it is mush quicker on it's refresh of tables now.
