I have not been able to upload completed work units in over 24 hours and they are stacking up on my computer waiting. Anyone know what's going on ? It would be nice to have a permanent " Server Status " indicator on the site so one does not have to ask or wonder. . . |

Well then I must be blind, or its really well hidden. Go to home page. Big blue navigation bar: second column ('ABOUT'), 5th row. I see you've found it. Until about a couple of hours ago, the upload server (Bruno) was showing 'Disabled', and had been for the previous 36 hours or so. They've only just turned it back on, and there's still a backlog. Bookmark that page - it'll be more useful next time :-) |

I don't think it's a backlog problem. About a week ago there was a backlog problem an the servers seem to have been overloaded with requests. Al bandwith was used. See http://fragment1.berkeley.edu/newcricket/grapher.cgi?target=%2Frouter-interfaces%2Finr-250%2Fgigabitethernet2_3;ranges=d%3Aw%3Am%3Ay;view=Octets At this moment it doesn't seem that the servers are overloaded with requests, or do I misinterpred the graphs? |

I don't think it's a backlog problem. The graph only shows you the current bandwidth, but it does not show you if the Admins have purposely limited the upload/download bandwidth in an effort to ease previous bandwidth constraints, nor does it show you if the servers are dropping TCP connections due to too many people attempting to connect. |

There have been lots of comments about how odd TCP gets under certain circumstances, so I'll just drop this into the bucket. My commercial connection to the internet used to come through SAVVIS, and at the time they used a telco switch called a Shasta BSN for most connections. On a BSN, they have "flows" -- a little bit of dedicated code that tracks each active IP circuit. When there is an attack through the router, it spends all its' time building flows and tearing down flows, and no time routing. So, from behind a BSN, it looks like the bandwidth went away. Not saying that's what we're seeing here, just that strange things happen, and do the opposite of what you'd expect. |

Looks like another mysql brain fart, although that's a preliminary diagnosis. @SETIEric@qoto.org (Mastodon) |

What if they brought it down intentionally? If they did, they need to bring it back up so we can get some new tasks before the downage and the week long upload jam that will ensue afterwords. |

damn I only cleared one host to test, and I'm going to bed now - the others can sort themselves out overnight on automatic retry. So you can have my slot :-) |
