OK. Fair cop. I intended to download v6.6.33 and picked up v6.6.34 by mistake. Big mistake was that upgrading Boinc has gone so smoothly recently that I have got out of the habit of making a backup and closing the network connection :(
Closed down Boinc, ran the .exe and re-started Boinc. Ka-boom: the 608 .exe file and the cuda .dll's wiped and several hundred 608 tasks gone with them.
I couldn't be sure whether it was down to the version so I backtracked and installed v6.6.33 (as originally intended), located copies of the missing cuda files and am now back crunching and replenishing my cache.
Here is a copy of the messages just after I had started the v6.6.34:

Note the error about a non-existent coprocessor way *before* it gets round to enumerating the GTX295.

Food for thought?

Confirmed. Big bug - found and fixed, but no re-issue yet.

Bug is CUDA only - rest works OK. Might even work for stock applications - bug in is app_info department. But best advice overnight is -

Avoid v6.6.34
