Hi,

I have 17 tasks listed online as "In Progress" for my computer 4840166. Only 8 of them are actually listed on my computers BOINC manager. The "missing" tasks are those 9 tasks sent on 2 APR 2009 14:20:30. They do not show up on my message list either.

I could just let them hit their deadline but I wanted to resolve this so another user could start processing these WUs.

Thank you.

Dave

Nothing much to do. The 'Ghost' WU will just have to time out. Only a project reset/detach would clean things up earlier and that would cause you to loose the other work on your system. Better to just ignore it and let them be reassigned naturally. They will stay in your account until they get validated.

IMHO, these are so-called "ghost" WUs (accepted by server as "sent" during transmission session, but not received (or partially, whichn is equal to) by Your BOINC client due to network problems). If cache is nearly empty, then proceeding up to dry cache and then detach/attach helps to clear workunit's status up to "client detached" - so these workunits will be sent to someone else. If running of a cache to dry state isn't acceptable - then only way is to ignoring such "ghosts" (waiting up to deadline, server will resends them after that).

if you are running optimized apps I wouldnt recommend detach/reattach. If you aren't go ahead and run down what you have onboard and detach reattach this frees the ghost units faster than just waiting for them to die

Thank you Aurora Borealis, Leopoldo, and Skildude!

My last set of four tasks just started, (45 minutes up to 5 hrs into the calcs) so I decided to detach and reattach rather than wait.

Thanks again for your help,

Dave
