It is happening all to often. Senseless killing. In the last month, 48 people across the U.S. have died in mass shootings.


Several weeks ago Oakland, California lost 4 officers in the line of duty.

This past weekend, 4 Pittsburgh policemen were shot, 3 died, responding to a domestic call.


Our men in blue put it on the line everyday to protect us.

Simply said its a sad state of affairs when Simple respect is not given to each other and especially Police. I remember visiting a local State Police barracks as a kid in Michigan. They had the Honored dead on the wall. I recall their only being 5 or 6 on the wall. Clearly we have forgotten that we need to respect each others as we would like others to respect us.


Here's a shocking story from around 1970. We as a family left our suburban home outside Detroit. We travelled to the Amusement park in Ohio called Cedar Pointe. We brought a cooler full of food and drinks for the day. Back then you were allowed to bring your own food into the park. We left the Cooler on a picnic table and when we returned for our lunch the food drinks and yes the cooler were still there. That is respect.

I cannot imagine doing the same thing today. Today, I'd give that Cooler about 10 minutes before its contents were eaten and cooler stolen. It seems that we have vultures in our midst and they are flocking around us because we as a group choose not to see the problem.

I know it's sad how much it has changed since we were young, in the late 70's early 80's I remember the same situations as you. I agree with Gary on his point that (GREED)"everything counts in large amounts" (depeche mode ref.) And that respect has gone out the window, respect the object - not the person.
The best I can do is give my respect/support/empathy to my family/neighbors/coworkers when things get bad. That's the other sad thing about this that some people have lost their empathy and have traded it for apathy. It's also sad that people don't seem to get it until a disaster hits - not like somewhere in Italy where a quake hits (Oh that's on the other side of the world so why should it bug me?) But if something was to happen here (God forbid) like Yellowstone going up and covering the breadbasket w/ash... Unfortunately it takes a disater to wake people up.
Bad parenting may be part of the cause but I think our society as a whole may be responsible for this (I'm looking out for myself so go blank yourself)
But enough of my ninety cents =) Thank you klc for bringing this =)
