Shouldn't be too slow for SETI Multibeam workunits, they're only 357KB when downloaded. AstroPulse workunits may be a different story since they're 8MB (8,192KB) large.

Once you download the workunit(s), the connection can be terminated until it needs to send back the results and retrieve more work - so it doesn't have to be on all the time.

kool, and i liked how when i DL"ed it that it gave other options to do other than seti like globalwarming thats sweet...so my comp. doesnt have to be on only to get more work and to send work out?... nice, when i DL"ed the program i only have astropulse idk about multibeam you mentioned but when i put the arrow over the boincsymble in the tray i saw 2 %"s and i wonder why when it went idle that the data info showed 1-21-09...this is 2-28-09 lol...so far so good though,im glad i saw this on youtube (well,it was mentioned)...

Edit: do i always have to be idled...becouse i like to play world of warcraft and i would hate to get kicked out of this guild im in lol...

Joining other projects is a great advantage of the BOINC platform, and even recommended because sometimes the servers at larger projects like SETI@Home will be down until someone can fix them (low budget science and all).

AstroPulse is still a way of searching for SETI, but using a different method than MultiBeam. You'll probably get both from time to time. I'm not sure about that date that you saw though. The only date that is usually displayed is the deadline date in BOINC Manager.

One correction though: your computer does have to be on, just not the modem unless you are uploading or downloading work.

One note. Climate Prediction tasks are rather large. They take several hundred MB to upload, the downloads are quite a bit smaller, and they are going to take more than a month of CPU time. Depending on hardware and the simulation, it can take 4 weeks to a year or even more of CPU time. My 1.5GHz machines typically take around 6 months of CPU time.

I don't know what your data plan for the cricket modem looks like, but there are projects that have high bandwidth requirements, and you might consider staying away from them if you pay per byte.

Nah,we dont pay per byte for our modems...and boinc seems to do pretty good with it,now im trying to figure out why the boinc screensaver only stayed up for 20 min. while i was sleeping last night then went back to the desktop picture, then after 4 min. it went back to the boinc screensaver...thats kinda odd it did that all night last night lol...
Unless...the screensaver switching from desktop to screensaver is normal idk...does this suppose to happen?...
