Any sufficiently advanced technology is indistinguishable from magic Ain't that the truth! My new car does magical things every day! I approach the car with my keys in my pocket, and if it is dark out the interior lights come on. When I grab the door handle, it unlocks. When someone else grabs a door handle, it remains locked until I unlock it. When I am out in an unfamiliar area I can ask the car to tell me how to get home. When I am using the voice guidance to tell me how to get home, and I don't like the neighborhood that it suggests that I go through, I can say "Detour" and it tells me a way around the scary places. Now I wonder why my house doesn't recognise me and unlock the door when I approach the door? Why doesn't my computer recognise me and log me on when I approach the keyboard? Why doesn't my toaster know how I like my toast? Why doesn't the ATM at my bank recognise me? Why doesn't the elevator at work know which floor I work on every day? |

"You see, wire telegraph is a kind of a very, very long cat. You pull his tail in New York and his head is meowing in Los Angeles. Do you understand this? And radio operates exactly the same way: you send signals here, they receive them there. The only difference is that there is no cat." - Albert Einstein, when asked to describe radio "Freedom is just Chaos, with better lighting." Alan Dean Foster |

Your cat will never threaten your popularity by barking at three in the morning.. An unaltered cat will howl at the moon when it wants a mate. Just ask anyone who has lived with one, or near one. He won't attack the mailman or eat the drapes, although he may climb the drapes to see how the room looks from the ceiling. - Helen Powers. Cats do shred things in the house. I know this because I live with 8 cats, and they have shredded the couch, the mini-blinds, the clothes hamper, the box springs of my bed, a door jam, bathroom towels, toilet paper rolls, basically anything that they can get their claws into. Oh, and moving something up off the floor does not protect it from being shredded unless it is at least 8 feet above the nearest climbable surface. |
