Message 861277 - Posted: 2 Feb 2009, 22:13:22 UTC

Hey all.

My laptop has a 1600M Quadro FX with 512 mb of memory.
nVidia site shows this to be a CUDA enabled device.
UPdated boinc to latest 6.6.3.
Updated nVidia drivers to latest for this machine.
Still getting a No CUDA devices found.
:(
Anything else that would hold it back?

Could you link the computer in question by Host ID, please? None of yours are showing a CUDA card as yet.

If it's one of the Vista ones, is BOINC running as a service ('Protected Execution Mode')? That would scupper it.

Nvidia card list

Yours is not on the list. Thus you won't be able to do GPU crunching on seti@home

Wrong again, if you look at the 'Quadro Mobile Products' there is the Quadro FX 1600M.

Searcher, you didn't say what version drivers you've installed.
At least it has enough memory, unlike my 8400M GS.

youre problem are the mobile drivers. you need to install ver 181.20 or higher for cuda to work.the nvidia drivers on the homepage are ver 178.xx.
you can get version 181.2x at laptopvideo2go.com

Nvidia now have Notebook drivers on their site,
179.28 are the ones i have installed on my Samsung R700,
otherwise I'd be stuck with 156.76 from Samsung.

Claggy

Edit: 179.28 are latest drivers for notebooks, you only need 180.xx drivers if you intend to run Raistmer's apps,

That laptop is reporting Bonc as follows............

<core_client_version>5.10.45</core_client_version>

Isn't Boinc version 6.4.5 or greater required to recognize a Cuda capable video card? I believe it is.
Boinc....Boinc....Boinc....Boinc....

Those might be old results reported since the OP states that they recently updated to BOINC v6.6.3, which is still in alpha as far as I know.

As far as I know, "daemon" mentioned at BOINC's log is equal to choice of "Protected Application Execution" at the time of BOINC's installation...

And there are official words at SETI@Home site "Run SETI@home on your NVIDIA GPU":

Protected Application Execution mode is incompatible with CUDA, so be sure to install BOINC with the default options.

for best performance you should use boinc 6.2.19 the latest driver pack from laptopvideo2go and raistmer team pack v8 and the modified cc_config.xml .

i started using this setup 3 days ago and it is working like a charm.

daemon is indeed the "Protected Application Execution" mode, but that's OK under Windows XP (it's the way I run mine) - it's only a problem under Vista. The computer Searcher linked is XP, so it should be OK.

But the log also says

2/2/2009 3:59:14 PM||No CUDA devices found

so I'd go with the driver theory.

Are you sure it's 6.2.19? CUDA isn't supposed to work until at least 6.4.5... unless that has changed again?

The stock app needs v6.4.5, but Raistmer's v8 mod can run under earlier versions by talking to CUDA directly, bypassing BOINC - fudge to allow CPU + GPU processing of a common task cache.
