Message 866966 - Posted: 19 Feb 2009, 1:52:15 UTC - in response to Message 857579.

3) This CPU-GPU team will not play nicely with other GPU-related projects like GPU-grid. It's because no BOINC GPU-management mechanism is used in this version.
This fact has positive side too - you do not need GPU-aware BOINC at all. You just need host with CUDA-supported GPU. It should work even with BOINC 5.xx
4) <ncpus>NUMBER_OF_CORES+1</ncpus> is REQUIRED for productive work. If you let BOINC manage CPU cores number you will end up with one idle core, trust me ;)

Hi there... Just need to know if it is possible to run this mod on all cores with my Q6600+GPU, with older 5.xx client? In other words, does older clients even support cc_config.xml file? I've tried allready, but it always end up with one idle core. You said "...should work even with 5.xx" wich is more like "if you're crazy enough" to me. I've been stucked with 5.xx cause I get used to 'return results immediately' feature. Bottomline.. Can I stay in the past or should I've switch to Boinc 6.xx ?
Thnx and keep up with good work.

Yes, BOINC 5.xx should be fine for V8 combo (but not for V7 one!)

I have no Mac systems so can't do any Mac ports. Maybe someone will do that.

How's V9 coming? Any chance to get team work app that can use all available gpu's? THanks again for all your hard work!

Well I found out what was causing my missing file error. Norton 2009. It evidently didn't like AK_v8b_win_SSSE3x_GPU_CPU_team.exe. So it would remove it as malware or something. Told it to quit doing that and all is good now.

No. It's BOINC domain. Maybe in BOINC 7.0 at last? ....
V9 will include all latest improvements in team apps and new AP too of course.
Will come in team and multi-GPU variants (so both V7 and V8 will be deprecated).
And at least SSSE3 x64 variant planned.

LoL :)
I used Norton antivirus some time ago but later found it actually not catching viruses on my host. I was amazed when checked with few alternative antiviruses :( Don't know if they improved it in 2009 version but... very bad impression. Look at NOD32 side for example ;)

Still no fun on my 5.3.12 client. I've tried with cc_config on default (BOINC root) location and even copied it on project dir. but, as before, it end up with 3 occupied cores + cuda. There aren't any new lines on boinc messages tab
during startup, so it looks like boinc doesn't detect the presence of cc_ file?
My box is std. XP_SP2 x86 config with latest nVidia 181.22@Asus 9600GT. Any thoughts on how to force the last core to run with V8a mod? Anyone ?!

Are you saving it as a text file? If so it needs to be saved as an .xml file.

First I've created new text doc, copied lines into it and saved as xml.

It does sound odd but from what I'm reading, the 5.3.12 is from a very old alpha test client source and had some odd bugs associated with it. Could be updating Boinc is the best solution

I thought it might be...
It's not such bad idea, except for giving up on 'return results immediately' feature, which I kinda get used to.

I know this is pretty basic but are you sure you have changed the second line to all files before you save?

top line cc_config.xml
next line all files

That second line defaults to txt and if it isn't changed it will stick txt on the end of the top line. It also won't show up if you aren't showing complete file path.

Crunch3r's 6.1.0 BOINC core clients have that selfish feature too, and are new enough to support cc_config.xml with the <ncpus> option. IIRC you need to install 5.10.45 or so to have a compatible BOINC Manager.

As I noted at Lunatics, the <ncpus> option was added in June 2006 for BOINC 5.5.4, anything earlier simply doesn't have it. I don't know when it's characteristic of being able to set more CPUs than you really have was included, it may or may not have been that way from the beginning.

One question for anyone to answer please.

i Have a Q9300 at 2.5 GHz with a Sparkle Calibre 9600GT factory clocked to 700MHz GPU.

What would be the ok result for this configuration for SETI@Home project using the combined GPU_CPU application (Raistmer's_opt_package_V8a_CPU_GPU_team) with all the adons i could find:

Fixed_affinity_of_worker_thread

GPU_watch_update_for_SSSE3

More_clever_autokill_mod

No_suspend_on_BOINC_demand

working for about 22-23 hours every day of the week.

Curently after about 3 days of working only SETI (ncluding Astropulse) i'm at 1689.73 average work done.

IS this too little or ok or allot done?

Or i'm i having a problem that i'm not aware of and i'm not configured correctly or smoething?

IF so and i'm with a problem whats the fix? How can i fix it and get apsolutely the wery last unce of result from my machine?

IMHO you have best software config available for now.
Your RAC should and will be much higher.
The problem (not your problem at all) is there are many "pending" results in your list. These results awaiting confirmation by wingman.
Continue few days more and you will see RAC increase.
And, please, stay tuned on Lunatics forums - there will be update in next few days. New opt AP app almost ready for release, still no invalid results and already few successful validations with stock. When released, it will provide very nice RAC boost :)

OK Thanx Raistmer, but they are insane i have 12.899.08 pending credits, that is too slow man.

But what's rhere is there.

See you later aligator.

5.10.45 works just fine, thanks for a tip.
In return I won't go for Crunch3r's mod, thus won't be "selfish" anymore :)

If I remember correct the BOINC V5.10.13 had also something like RRI.

If you insert 0.001 days, you will have ~ 60 sec. after upload your report..

Computer is connected to the Internet about every 0.001 days
Maintain enough work for an additional X days [for your WU-cache]

@ Raistmer

I use you V7 kill mod.

It will be possible to add the 'real wall clock time counter' in this mod also?
It make lot of work to add this feature?

Or it will be included in your newer V9 kill mod? [multi GPUs]

You can still RRI on any BOINC client above 6.1.X
Just add <report_results_immediately>1</report_results_immediately> to your cc_config.xml.
