Today I have released Dotsch/UX 1.0. - Dotsch/UX is a Linux distribution for BOINC which easily installs and boot from a USB stick, hard disk and from diskless clients and also has some interfaces to setup the diskless server and the clients automatically.

For more informations have a look at http://www.dotsch.de/Dotsch_UX

I would have to say that perhaps using a free tracker for the torrent download would make that a more viable method of download.

Other than that, great job!

I have downloaded the ISO from the ftp server and am now seeding it as a torrent. I re-created the seed file to include two trackers to make the sharing faster and more convenient for everyone.

The torrent seed file on Dotsch's page will be getting updated shortly. The updated seed file is 41,141 bytes, so check the size until there is confirmation that the update has been made.

The torrent is doing very well. Presently (02:34 UTC) I am showing 7 seeds, and the swarm average is 225KB/sec. Very nice.

Thank you to everyone else who is contributing to seeding. Future releases should be done this same way.

Thank You very much Andy

Downloaded the file in 6 minutes.

Had trouble with time-out and bad metafile header from original site.

Now onto resurrecting several of my old systems.

Thank You.

Ok, I'm stuck at the early stages!

I have burnt the CD, booted from it and when I do:

Start the USB Stick installation by click on the „Create a USB Startup disk (step 1)“ icon on Applications Menu
under „Dotsch/UX USB Tools“

I am asked for a password! ??? I have no idea what to enter, I tried leaving it blank and "admin" - no joy...

Not going so good here.

I create a bootable USB stick. Boot from the USB stick, but then one Ubuntu is up and running it can't "see" the USB stick that it is currently running from so I can't proceed with the Boinc install.

Any ideas?

Going to try starting over again and if that doesn't work, will try it with a different USB stick perhaps?

Tried again with a bigger USB stick and get the same error:

"Attention. No USB stick found!
Eventually there is no USB stick present, or the USB stick label has some special characters in the label name. Please change label with the 'mlabel' command before continue.

Aborting...

Sorry, don't understand exactly...
The first step makes the inital installation which install the OS on the stick and made it bootable. After the boot you will get a bootable OS, if posible.
The second step would be started via "Applications / Dotsch/UX USB Tools" / "Setup Dotsch/UX on the USB Stick" which makes the BOINC image. Does this script not find the mounted USB stick ?
This could happens, if the USB stick has a label with some specail signs. I recommend you to mount the stick on a other OS and change the label into a label without special signs. For example "USB Stick" to "USBstick".

Edit : you can try with the mlabel command to change it within Linux, too. If it not work, you can try to change the label with a other OS.

This bit works great. I booted from CD, installed to USB and rebooted from USB.

No :(

I checked the label of the USB and it is simply named "disc". I plugged it into a windows machine and can see the label with no special characters.

I am not familiar with Linux, so don't understand how to utilise the mlabel command, but the name of the USB doesn't look to be a problem anyway?

Any more ideas?

Looks like the label is OK. Eventualy you can try to rename the label in windows.
I am sorry, I have no quick fix for this problem and must reproduce this.
Could you please send me the outputs from "cat /etc/mtab" "mount" and " df".

Just a quick question, last night before I installed this on the server I was setting up, on the 1st menu, one of the choices was to do an integrity check on the disk. I ran it, and it came back with 4 corrupted files on the disk. Being concerned, I re-downloaded it, and burned a new copy on a different brand of CDR, got the same message. I don't know which 4 were bad, it didn't say, but it seemed to install properly. Can anyone else confirm this, or is it just my system? Thanks
