Ive had my pc on over 24 hours and havent even got one WU

I can understand the problem but trying to find out when the problem will start to alleviate itself is a nightmare - i cant find any news from seti about an estimated time for repair etc.

its really annoying reading about how great people think it is or how you dont like this or that when i cant even get 1 wu going so i can see the screensaver in action!!!

im sure as soon as ive written this bonic will download about 100 wu's!

anyone else feel frustrated?

I don't think there will be any available Work Units until Monday sometime, if even then. Unless something changes between now and then... :/

LOST 3,600 PENDING CREDITS IN THE LAST TWITCH
==========

hehe...I lost over 6000 pending credits but it was to be expected. They said they would reset the credits and the did, so I can live with that.

But now I'm slowly building up the pending credits again to where I'm over 4000 again with only 3 PC's running and I would hate to lose them again. I think if there is another twitch there are going to be a lot of people that just twitch right out of here and say the hell with it.

They surely were not ready to go Live & the people are paying the price for it.

1. No WU's to speak of for anybody to run.
2. The Credits are totally messed up.
3. Their rushing new or different PC's online to try to cope with overload.
4. Turning back some of the features to try and cope with the overload.

Those are just some of the difficulty's they are having and I'm sure there are more. I don't even think there are that many people here yet even, I think most of Seti Classic users are staying with Seti Classic until things get a little more sorted out over here. What would they have done of a couple of Million of the Seti Classic users came over all at once... :/

I think the problem here is that some of the big boys onboard this project, i.e.
those who cache up for a f**king week are starving the lesser among us, and before anyone tells me to try another project my answer is I want to run SETI,
I think the problem is obvious reading al the posts about others crying over losing thousands of credits. We can't blame all of this on the SETI project
team.....please no flames....this is just my intuition, my humble opinion.
So we have just have to wait until those big boys finish eating....and SETI
throws out some more WU's....hope I can grab a few crumbs....

Come on guys be reasonable....turn the cache back...

I agree with this somewhat... BUT, how many times did S@H-Classic 'lose' credits due to hardware failures, etc. ?? They still 'owe' me several hundred credits from those over the years, but I ain't complaining... Stuff happens.

1. Hardware failures are makeing this situtation worse. S@H-Classic had MANY outages lasting days or weeks. How is this any different?

2. No the credits are not messed up. They are working normally, as far as I can tell.

3. Wouldn't you do that too, if you managed a computer resource that was being overloaded? :-P

4. Oh, come on now! S@H-Classic did this ALSO! Anyone remember the 'last 10' feature??? The limits on page displays? (for instance Team Art Bell has/had so many members that they could NOT be listed after Berkeley limited the size of roster pages that would be generated.) There are many other instances of them limiting or turning off features at S@H-Classic.

Latest info I see says 21671 'hosts' are active on the project (as of 24-Jun-2004 20:41). Berkeley had it stable under the beta-testing load, but the only way to test it further was to increase that load and see what broke. Well, a few things broke. :( To use an analogy, many of us (no doubt) buy computer games. Do not the publishers fix what they can in beta, then release the games, only to issue several 'patches' later (when they have a larger user base to catch the bugs)?? Our situtation here is no different. Berkeley needed a larger user base to 'stress-test' BOINC/S@H. They did NOT terminate S@H-Classic right off the bat (they COULD have, you know). When (not 'If') BOINC is down during the first 2 or 3 weeks, during the outages the BOINC users can still go back and run S@H-Classic until BOINC comes back up, though it is important that they use BOINC while it *IS* up (to help Berkeley catch more bugs and find more... 'issues' to fix).

One VAST improvement over S@H-Classic I am seeing here at BOINC/S@H is the frequent, informative status reports that the staff at Berkeley are putting up on the main page in the news box, something we didn't really get even on the Beta Test. This is VERY much appreciated, and I hope they continue to be as informative about outages during the life of the BOINC project(s).

Have a nice day and a good weekend!

Good luck, makes BOINC a bit more exciting but also frustating

I agree with most of what you are saying MajorKong, I was not complaining as much as I was just showing some of the difficulty's they are having at the moment.

But the Credits are screwed up in my opinion. When somebody only has 1 WU turned in for say 25 Granted Credits but they are showing 190 some recent credits I would say that is screwed up.

I came on board immediately and have been running my PC's 24/7 nonstop since they went live. I am listed like 590 or around there in the Recent Credit Rankings, but when I look at the people ahead of me there are like 400 of them that have less total credit than me but more recent credit...It simply don't add up to me that they can have less total but more recent when we have been here the same amount of time.

I'm not complaining about that either as I figure it will sort itself out eventually, I'm just pointing out the discrepancies in the credit system, thats all.. :)

GAHHHHHHHHH!

Don't you DARE do that. It won't do you any good. The server will ignore you if you try it more than once every 10 minutes, anyway, and the additional traffic you generate will just make it harder for everyone else to get through.

Well they are certainly coming through, albeit fairly slowly. Here's what I've managed to get hold of today;

26 Jun 2004 15:43:11 UTC --- In Progress Unknown New --- --- ---
225063 73370 26 Jun 2004 15:32:52 UTC --- In Progress Unknown New --- --- ---
220761 71936 26 Jun 2004 15:00:10 UTC --- In Progress Unknown New --- --- ---
220757 71935 26 Jun 2004 15:00:10 UTC --- In Progress Unknown New --- --- ---
220756 71934 26 Jun 2004 15:00:09 UTC --- In Progress Unknown New --- --- ---
220753 71933 26 Jun 2004 15:00:10 UTC --- In Progress Unknown New --- --- ---
220749 71932 26 Jun 2004 15:00:09 UTC --- In Progress Unknown New --- --- ---
217119 70722 26 Jun 2004 13:14:12 UTC ---

I've got 4 machines kept working with around 8-12 hours of work left in them. Judging by how much credit I've got pending I'm guessing there's still a massive amount sitting in peoples caches waiting to be crunched.

It's not recent credits, it's recent average credits which is something completely different. An average can be higher than a functional number. For instance, you can travel at a speed of 100km/h and only go 50km. Your distance traveled is now less than your average.
