This is an advance pre-release announcement on behalf of the Lunatics collective. Optimised v5.00 Astropulse is here! As always, these applications are meant for ADVANCED USERS only. Please familiarise yourself with the optimisation procedure before attempting to use these applications. The download packages include a slightly more complicated app_info.xml file than previously. The intention of the app_info is to continue crunching previously downloaded v4.xx Astropulse work with a v4 application, and to crunch any work (current or future) branded v5.00 with a v5 application. Both v4 and v5 applications are included in these downloads: both applications are new releases, including even greater optimisation and faster crunching times than before. The app_info.xml file included in these packages is fully-functional for Astropulse tasks only. If you want to crunch SETI Multibeam tasks as well, you will have to splice this app_info.xml file together with the MB elements from an existing app_info.xml file. As Ned Ludd has said in another thread, the easiest way to do this is to: * Use Notepad to open the MB-only app_info.xml file from your existing MB optimisation package * Use Notepad to open the AP-only app_info.xml file from this download package * Use copy'n'paste to butt the contents of the two files end-to-end in a single file * Remove the two lines from the middle where the files joined: </app_info> <app_info> The download links that follow point to my personal Microsoft Skydrive space: the hurried nature of the Astropulse release, and the inconvenient timing of the KWSN server move, have conspired against us preparing a proper KSWN download and release. This will follow as soon as the dust settles. In the meantime, only click these links if you trust me, and you trust Microsoft Skydrive. Windows AP_5.00 SSE3 Science App: Intended for Intel & AMD CPUs, running Windows that have a minimum of SSE3 capability. 1 - Astropulse Windows ap_4.36r43_5.00r69_SSE3 (AMD/INTEL) Windows AP_5.00 SSE Science App: Intended for Intel & AMD CPUs, running Windows that have a minimum of SSE capability 2 - Astropulse Windows ap_4.36r43_5.00r69_SSE (AMD/INTEL) Both packages are 7-zip compressed archives, which can be made self-extracting by renaming with an exe extension. Other archivers such as WinRAR can also decompress the 7-zip format. For further releases, programmer credits. and information about source code availablility, please visit http://lunatics.kwsn.net/index.php Edit: Added links to KSWN and Ned's post. Removed over-complicated transitional note, at the suggestion of the programmers. ![]() |

Thanks for the info and links Richard. I'm not sure if you're saying this, but I'm curious if this will work on 4.36 tasks already in progress by the previous opti app? Yes, that's the intention - v4.35 and v4.36 are functional identical as far as crunching is concerned (the only change was a graphics bug-fix, not applicable to optimised apps), and both should be handled by the app_info included in these packages. But you should always proof-read an app_info file, and check that it seems suitable for your own PC and any work that you have on hand. |

Many thanks to you Richard and also to all the folks at Lunatics for their hard work on this. Boinc....Boinc....Boinc....Boinc.... |

No, ones partially completed by an earlier app will likely yield an immediate 'compute error', I lost 1 task to this. "Living by the wisdom of computer science doesn't sound so bad after all. I can't download the apps. If I click on the link, it takes me to a Windows Live page, and if I right-click and select "Save link as..." it wants to save it as an HTML document. I'm using Firefox 3.0.4. |

The app_info as drafted should pick up v4.35 and v4.36 work in progress (stock or opti) and finish it with a compatible v4 app. You shouldn't try to change the 'branding' of a task after it has started crunching, but it might be possible while it's waiting unstarted in a cache. |

I'm using Firefox 3.0.4. I'll go and see if I can find how to get a direct download link. Sorry about that. No, ones partially completed by an earlier app will likely yield an immediate 'compute error', I lost 1 task to this. If someone that does have AP task/s currently being run by the previous opti app, and is successful in using the new one in it's place ( with the brandig or not ), could please post that when they do, I'd be gratefull. |

Possible least aggravation way: - Set 'No New Tasks' - suspend all the other AP tasks (The ones not processing) - Wait for the ones processing to complete, - then go through the installation procedure. - Resume the unprocessed tasks - Unset 'No New Tasks' No warranty, explicit or implied ;D "Living by the wisdom of computer science doesn't sound so bad after all. Possible least aggravation way: Yes that's what I am doing now. I would be more than happy to edit it, when I'm sure I can do it without having errors. If it is possible to use the new app on the old ones all I need is to be told someone got one going and I'm on it. |

No, ones partially completed by an earlier app will likely yield an immediate 'compute error', I lost 1 task to this. Had one optimized Astropulse work unit in progress, and with the new app_info.xml and apps, it's working fine. ----- One thing- I'm currently crunching four work units (shown in Task Manager): AK_v8_win_SSE3.exe *32 - optimized 6.03 Multibeam for main SETI@home - 25% usage, 35MB memory ap_4.37_SSE3_EPF.exe *32 - optimized 4.36 Astropulse for main SETI@home - 25% usage, 47MB memory astropulse_5.00_windows_intelx86.exe *32 - Astropulse v5 for SETI@home Beta - 25% usage, 47MB memory astropulse_5.00_windows_intelx86.exe *32 - Astropulse v5 for SETI@home Beta - 25% usage, 47MB memory astropulse_5.00_windows_intelx86.exe *32 - 0% usage, 46MB memory <--extra 5th entry Anybody else seeing an extra entry in Task Manager? I'm going to try rebooting and see if the extra entry disappears. Thank you all for the new code for AP. Before extracting the 7z, I opened my app_info from before and copied the lines for the MB app out of it and spliced those in from the clipboard. Told BOINC no new tasks, suspended all of my APs except one that was partially crunched, and started back up. No errors, and everything is happily crunching away. If the splicing is done correctly, there should not be any problems. [edit] Also, I would like to kindly ask to be informed when Linux builds become available for v4 and 5. If my understanding is correct, it should be a few weeks for v4 to be obsolete, correct?[/edit] Linux laptop: record uptime: 1511d 20h 19m (ended due to the power brick giving-up) |

One thing- No but I'm wondering why the 5.00 you have running aren't showing up as ap_5.00r69_SSE3.exe, instead of astropulse_5.00_windows_intelx86.exe |
