Critical Mass, for those that don't know, is a monthly event in New York where cyclists "take control" of a few streets. Relations between the cyclists and the NYPD have at times been fraught, last Friday was the first incident that I've heard of in a while.

In this case the Officer has said that he wanted to stop a cyclist who was riding erratically. The Mayor has said the Officer's beahvior looked "totally over the top and inappropriate".

it makes sense to use bicycle in city, you can get faster by bike than by car.
i use only bicycle or feet to move around.
(late night by foot obliviously)

Within the past couple days I saw a police officer pushing a bikerider down, possibly in Nueva York, on Univisión. The cop just pushed him from the side where the bikerider fell over a curb, probably getting injured. There's no call for that; the officer could've just grabbed the bike. The officer deserves jail and no more police work (or any other work) for a long time. Conduct unbecoming a police officer. There's an exception: If the bikerider were wanted for a serious crime.
