	I am going to be losing my DSL pretty soon, but I don't want to give up on SETI though. I was wondering if there would be a way for me to go to a public computer with my flash drive (like a library, for example) and do all of my uploading/downloading from there, without having to install anything on that public computer (however, if the program can be run on my flash drive, that is ok). (also, before you ask, I don't have a laptop... it is a rather bulky desktop that does not have a wireless card :P) ____________

	Its entirely possible to install and run BOINC from a flash drive, but I really wouldn't recommend it. Flash drives have a limited "write" life and BOINC is very disk intensive thus a flash drive wouldn't last too long (depending on how much BOINC is run from the drive). Otherwise, no it is not possible to simply use another computer to upload/download new tasks easily, especially not without at least installing BOINC on that computer. ____________

It works with a few inconveniences with BOINC 5.x. If you copy the entire BOINC directory onto the flash drive then take it to another machine you can start BOINCMGR and off it goes. You will upload your results and download some new stuff. The big problem is that BOINC will spot its running on a new machine and will issue you a different ID, and work suitable for that platform. When you copy the directory back to your home machine and start it you'll find the time estimates have gone astray etc. If you can always arrange to use the SAME public computer to do the transfers you'll find most projects dont spot the subterfuge.
