Whatever deities there may be or may not be, they will never notice. I'd be curious to know how you would account for our individual uniqueness... ;) (Careful now, my next question has to do with animals.) It may not be 1984 but George Orwell sure did see the future . . . |

Whatever deities there may be or may not be, they will never notice. The answer to that is at least very deep and indeed may not itself exist. In the context of physics, quantum dynamics, and fate: How do you interpret and attempt to answer the very famous phrase of "God does not play dice with the universe"? Or indeed, might "he"/"she"/"it"/"God"/"god"/"Thing"/"process"/"mechanism"/"simulation" 'play dice' in a similar style to the Greek pantheon of gods of old? (Note that you could also consider life itself to be a living entity...) (Careful now, my next question has to do with animals.) Also consider down to individual microbes? Is an animal "one life" or a community of life that combines to simultaneously (and separately) form a lifeform that is the aggregate of the community of living cells and of whatever hosted parasites/infections? What of the life of thought? What is "life"? Keep searchin', Martin See new freedom: Mageia Linux Take a look for yourself: Linux Format The Future is what We all make IT (GPLv3) |

I just hate how most religions are based in fear, mystery, and most of all... faith. Which is odd since most people like to have some proof before genuflecting to someone/something/it. We're all born sinners... What's that all about? Babies born outside of wedlock go to some place called purgatory? What the heck did they do? YHWH was a weirdo, power freak. I don't know about you but asking someone to kill their own child as a test tells me more about the deity than it does about the prophet. For (a) guy/gal/it to be so cruel to those he supposedly created and loves just doesn't add up for me. Sounds more like stories made up or twisted by power hungry people or groups to gain control over people in order to fulfill some personal agenda. Heck... we can't even respect the Constitution which is hundreds of years old. How are we supposed to believe/trust documents that have obviously been twisted by people for a couple/few, thousand years? Buddhism seems to be the most logical religion, if you want to call it that. But even that has been made into a monastic entity by those who have followed his teachings. Sheesh! . I just hate how most religions are based in fear, mystery, and most of all... faith. Those are all well tried and abused Marketing tools. Also known as "FUD", and widely used. We're all born sinners... What's that all about? Babies born outside of wedlock go to some place called purgatory? What the heck did they do? That's just where the default assumption is "guilty until argued otherwise". It also guarantees job security for those needed to absolve your assumed guilt. YHWH was a weirdo, power freak. I don't know about you but asking someone to kill their own child as a test tells me more about the deity than it does about the prophet. For (a) guy/gal/it to be so cruel to those he supposedly created and loves just doesn't add up for me. Yaweh is just a name used in a story. Is there any basis in any fact anywhere? What is the history of the story itself? The cruelty might be in the way that story is interpreted and taught... Sounds more like stories made up or twisted by power hungry people or groups to gain control over people in order to fulfill some personal agenda. ... That is often the case. All part of the politics of any organisation? Buddhism seems to be the most logical religion, if you want to call it that. But even that has been made into a monastic entity by those who have followed his teachings. Buddism is very scientific in the way it strives to remain self-consistent and in the way that the foundation assumptions are declared. Shame that it can still be 'interpreted' in political ways, pretty much as are all the big religions regardless of what they use for their "Bible". Sheesh! Very apt. Has there been a Simpsons episode about all this? Keep searchin', Martin See new freedom: Mageia Linux Take a look for yourself: Linux Format The Future is what We all make IT (GPLv3) |

A good start is just simply to care... ... And to educate. You can help with one of the ideals of the Olympics in promoting friendly dialog between countries and groups: THE OLYMPIC HANDSHAKE - JOIN IN NOW! This is a friendly gesture following on from the handshake offered by the Dalai Lama and passed along a human chain of people across the streets of London to offer friendship and contact with the Chinese authorities. Please help to continue this across-the-world email handshake to offer hope for both China and Tibet. This is part of the email reply I got from my "email handshake" with an Antipodian participant: ... Thanks for all you do, The Avaaz team ----- Dear friends, As the Beijing Olympics begin, the world looks on with mixed emotions. This is a moment which should bring us closer together, and Chinese citizens deserve their excitement -- but the Chinese government still has not opened meaningful dialogue on Tibet, or changed its stance on Burma, Darfur and other pressing issues. Riots and disruptions of the Olympic torch relay have only helped nationalists whip up Chinese anger. But we cannot stay silent -- so what can we do? The answer comes from the Dalai Lama himself, in an unambiguous gesture of Olympic spirit and friendship: a handshake. It began in London, passed hand to hand by thousands of us -- now the handshake has gone online, and is criss-crossing the globe on its way to Beijing. All of us can join, Chinese and non-Chinese, and it comes with a promise: to hold ALL our governments accountable where they fall short, in Tibet, Iraq, Burma or beyond. We will deliver our message in a bold Olympic media campaign before the closing ceremonies: Click below to see how the handshake started, sign up to join in, and watch it circle the globe -- Your handshake The worldwide outcry has produced some progress, but much resistance from Chinese officials so far. If we are to see advances not setbacks after the Games, we need to show both that our voices will never fall silent, and that our challenge is a positive one. We have one last chance to reclaim the spirit of the Olympics with the message of friendship and dialogue we share with the Dalai Lama. The more people join the global handshake, the more powerful our message will be when it hits the Chinese and international media. So forward this email on, encouraging everyone to join in. One World, One Dream is an ideal bigger than the Olympics -- it is time for citizens around the world to take it back. With hope and respect, Paul, Ricken, Ben, Milena, Graziela, Iain, Pascal, Veronique and the whole Avaaz team [...] There is a lot of disinformation about the Dalai Lama -- for more about his support for the Olympics and positions on Tibet and China, see: dalailama.com/news and chinese-student-interviewing-the-dalai-lama ABOUT AVAAZ Avaaz.org is an independent, not-for-profit global campaigning organization that works to ensure that the views and values of the world's people inform global decision-making. (Avaaz means "voice" in many languages.) Avaaz receives no money from governments or corporations, and is staffed by a global team based in London, Rio de Janeiro, New York, Paris, Washington DC, and Geneva. We can all play our part, Regards, Martin See new freedom: Mageia Linux Take a look for yourself: Linux Format The Future is what We all make IT (GPLv3) |

I didn't know that the original handshake had turned into a virtual one. I took part in the London one that was started by the Dalai Lama from the Albert Hall. It went all the way through central London, people shaking hands and ended with a petition that was actually accepted by the Chinese Embassy. And yes, I still have the T shirt.. |

And God said, let there be evolution. And there was evolution. And it was good. That is a statement of faith, not of science as it cannot be proved or disproved. BOINC WIKI |

And God said, let there be evolution. And there was evolution. And it was good. What 'language' might he/she/it 'speak'? Who/what is this god (thing) anyway? And how does one of the many authors of whichever bible(s) know what their god(s) 'says' in anycase?... Or is The Law to be the New Bible?...
