Yeah I done that and it says everything is ok so I am downloading it now. I have tried Red Hat Mandrake and Ubuntu 8.10 also but they are are not quite there yet for me and I like the SUN stuff and I got this email from them telling me about the Solaris OS so I think I will give it a try. I know that SETI and BOINC has a Solaris version. |

Has any one tried this OS at http://www.opensolaris.com/get/[/url it is a live cd to try it out and if it is to my liking I can install it. This is what they say "Download, burn, boot, and launch. From dorm room to boardroom. OpenSolaris has everything you need to take your brilliant idea, build a prototype, test it, deploy it, and run it on production serversâ€â€out of a loft, or across your enterprise." from their website at [url=http://www.opensolaris.com/get/#legal]http://www.opensolaris.com/get/#legal so I guess it is unlimited installs on as many machines as I would want to much like Ubuntu. |

Great, just what we needed, an os powered by java... ;) It is SOLARIS a UNIX OS and BSD similarties or something like that and is open source much in the way of LINUX OS and works well with SUN microsystems servers which is JAVA and is developed by SUN Microsystems and SUN OS includes SOLARIS. Maybe it is JAVA powered. Anyway I will try it out. |

Maybe it is JAVA powered. Anyway I will try it out. My ISO download was bad it would not confirm on the burn so I ordered the cd it is a free mailing so I can't go wrong there. I can always try to re-download it I guess. The mailing says for me in central VA is about 3 days. |

My ISO download was bad it would not confirm on the burn Downloads confirm too... My guess is that you used a bad cd... When you buy them in bulk, there are always a few bad apples... ;) (Don't be surprised if/when the next few don't work.) It may not be 1984 but George Orwell sure did see the future . . . |

My ISO download was bad it would not confirm on the burn Yeah I guess so I ran out of cd's and I used a bunch of old ones I found lying around. I wish I could use a check sum on the download but I didn't see any. I will just wait for it to arrive in the mail. |

Has any one tried this OS at http://www.opensolaris.com/get/ it is a live cd to try it out and if it is to my liking I can install it. Have downloaded & burned it. Ran it on X2 3800 desktop & it looks pretty good. Detected my windows network straight away. Only one problem - cannot get net access. Can't find anywhere to aid internet detection. Help files states that it automatically detects DHCP - but still no access. Firefox boots up but cannot get any access. Other than that, I would probably use it. Is Solaris 10 any better? |

Has any one tried this OS at http://www.opensolaris.com/get/ it is a live cd to try it out and if it is to my liking I can install it. I can;t answer that because I am not very well versed with openSolaris. Solaris 10 is a free download....I didn't have any problems with it using comcast as my dhcp provider. If you run (as root) ifconfig -a ..do you see your network adapter as having an IP? If so, then run netstat -rn and see if there is a default gateway listed... |
