is there a way i could have my home pc do 2 - 3 analyses at the same time instead of the current one at a time, i have been with seti for going on 10 yrs now and if i was able to do 2 - 3 or more at a time i would have done 20 - 30 yrs worth. if each personal pc did the same it we would be that many more years ahead. if not then could the next upgrade have the option of how may analyses you want your pc to do. i have 120 Gb doing nothing and could be put to good use if i could increase my work load.

Software is optimized at one result per processor / thread. So on multi processor machines you can do more than one. Because of memory shifts and the way the math processing works, etc. trying to do more than one on a single processor would take more than twice the time, because one would have to wait for certain functions to finish on the math processor, or certain memory to open up to use.

In addition to what Pooh Bear said, if you're looking to store more workunits locally on your machine, you can always increase your cache size. Note that workunits sitting on your hard drive are still only waiting in queue. The only thing that actually analyzes the workunits is your CPU, your 120GB of hard drive is simply storage space - it sits there waiting for the CPU to actually do something with it.

Thank you to all who replied, it has helped me. sounds like i would be better off buying more pc's if i want to do more than one at a time.i have 4 processors but i would rather not over work them, i would rather do one at a time than none from an overload. thanks again evryone for your help.

If you have 4 CPUs, you should be doing 4 at a time unless you have specified otherwise.
