Hi folks, wondering if anyone can answer this question. I am new to BOINC but had been processing work units back in 1999-2002 using classic SETI@HOME. Back then, it took me about five months to process 95 classic work units. Now I have processed about 1000 work units every week on my brand new fast machine. Is this truly because of faster processors (3Ghz dual vs. 550Mhz in the old days) or is this more a function of the way in which work unit credits are accrued in BOINC or is it the work unit size or a combination or what? Is there a way to compare? Thanks Peter |

Processing has changed a lot since classic days. The software is looking deeper than it used to, but it also is enhanced for some of the newer processors. Crediting is very different, it's based on the amount of flops done on the result you crunch. They also are now having a validity portion where at least 2 have to match close enough for credit to be given. Welcome aboard and happy crunching. My movie https://vimeo.com/manage/videos/502242 |

There is actually more processing being done now on the data. This would take substantially longer. The executables have beensomewhat optomized, which reduces the processing time some, but not as much as the added processing due to the more in depth look at the data. In short, not only is your machine doing the same work faster, it is doing more work faster. BOINC WIKI |
